First let us begin by recommending that no one ever, even if it was there last option, take a Greyhound bus! We were supposed to take a bus at 10.30am to get us to Austin at 3.30pm, but we didn't manage to get there until 7pm! The buses were delayed and they were overcrowded so people had to wait for the next bus, which meant when we arrived in Dallas (having already missed our connecting bus) we were at the back of more than a bus full of people waiting in a gigantic queue! We managed to speak to a staff member who promised to get us on the next bus (which was late too). We finally arrived in Austin to find everyones bags had been put on another bus! So we then had to wait for the next bus to arrive to collect our bags - as you can imagine we were completely calm and took a leaf out of Dad's book and sat quietly and waited without muttering a word of compliant!
On our fisrt day in Austin we headed downtown to visit the Capitol Building. Austin is the state capital of Texas. The building was completed in 1888 (old for America!) and is set in parklands. After having a look around the ornate building, which is still used today and, as such, some is closed to the public, we headed down Congress Avenue to see the sights of Downtown Austin, where the music is more famous than the polititians!
