We met Mum and Rob at Las Vegas Airport then went to pick up our car...not an easy task! We couldn't remember which company we had booked it with, and our guesses didn't have reservations for us! Rob eventually figured it out, by reading the confirmation thoroughly! But we didn't have a voucher printed out so when we arrived at the Dollar rent-a-car, they wouldn't rent us a car! So we had to start from scratch and we'd have to try to get a refund when we had a voucher (anything to get out of the 100 degree heat).
So eventually we were on our way, with Mum in the drivers seat (Rob forgot his licence!!), so with white knuckles we set off towards the Grand Canyon. We spent the night in Kingman town after a quick dinner and a catch up.
The next morning we left for the Canyon at 5.30am to take a rafting trip down the river. We sat in the WET seats, but it was well worth it, just to cool off, the temperature reached 115 degrees in the shade! Wowsers!
Along the river we stopped to climb up to a natural waterfall, hidden in a cave. Poncho, our guide, told us stories about the river along the way. After the rapids we floated lazily along the river admiring the colourful canyon view. At the end of the 40 mile trip along the river we were taken to the top of the canyon, by helicopter! It was amazing to see the canyon from a bird's eye view! Then it was 2 hour, bumpy, bus journey back through the desert and Indian Reservations. We had a fantastic time, and recommend rafting as the way to see the Grand Canyon!!
