We headed to the bus station in Bangkok, ready for our trip to the border of Cambodia, which took 5 hours. We walked across the border into Cambodia and then opted for a bus to take us to Siem Riep which was a VERY long 6 hours in an old rickety bus following a dirt track all the way! Our poor bums!
The bus company tried to pull a fast one, dropping us off at a hotel where they got commision, late that night, but we opted to jump in a Tuk Tuk and choose our own hotel!
The next day, after some much needed sleep, we headed to the Floating Village of Chang Kneas. The village moves, depending on the season; the families move inland when it is the wet season and the water rises to 11m - it was just 3m when we visted. We took a boat ride around the village, with our crew being some local school children - and we actually towed a couple of dugout boats to the village too; their teacher and some other pupils! The village has everything you would expect from an onland village; market, police station, church, restaurants and of course houses. We even visited a fresh water fish exhibition. We were taken to a hole in the boards, which looked pretty calm, and after our guide threw a handful of fish into the water, Catfish began thrashing around to eat them! We got a little wet! There were also crocodiles here too!
