Here we are in beautiful Vienna after 24hrs travel. Glad to be horizontal again! Anna had got up very early to meet us as did Felix her flatmate who provided transport - many thanks to these young people. After a much needed coffee, we explored the city with Anna and now feel we can tackle it on our own. It's very compact really and within easy distance of our pension and as well the trams run regularly for further afield. There is so much to see and do in the 5 days - so much culture and history packed into these beautiful old buildings. We fitted in a visit to the Stefandom Cathedral this morning, including an underground tour of the catacombs. Somewhat creepy with rooms full of centuries old bones. The Hapsburgs are all buried there - at least their entrails are! Evidently it was the fashion to bury the royal family in 3 parts in different places - entrails, heart & body. Noice! The weather is very mild - probably have too many warm clothes as I suspected.
