Thankfully the rain had eased off when we got up so went into the city to see old town of Alabama. There was no traffic on the roads and the city was dead quiet....weird, maybe everyone sleeps in here.
After looking around old alabama town we drove around the city to get a good look at it in the daylight....still no one about.
Instead of staying in the city we decided to go venturing a bit and hit the road to explore Alabama. First cultural stop was McDonald's. The young guy that served me asked " where y'all from", when I replied Australia his response was "awww that's cute".
So off we went and three hours later we were in the middle of a forest at an exact replica of Stonehenge and actual sized dinosaurs. There are no signs at all for these discoveries at all and if you don't look properly you would never find them.
After having a good look around and listening to the boys make loud noises to hear the echo ( not the most fun noise) we headed back to Montgomery checking out some little towns on the way. The weird and wonderful sights you see and weird road signs keep the car ride interesting.....that and 20 questions game, that went on for way too long.
To end the day we headed to yet another cultural experience, KFC. Now I wish I could say it was a sanitary establishment that smelled clean but I can't. But Linda wanted to try some so we gambled and ordered a bucket.
The outcome....no food poisoning thank goodness and was better than any half cooked fatty KFC we have ever had at home. The pieces were massive so we are being ripped off at home that is for sure. They cooked over sized corn fed chickens here compared to the budgies they cook at home.
So a couple of wines after tea ended the night as we are leaving early tomorrow to continue our road trip. Our longest drive is tomorrow as we are crossing two states. So am expecting the boys will be so entertained and well behaved...sighhhhhh
