L'Abri time vs. Real time
I have spent the past 3 weeks at a place called L'Abri just outside Boston. That has got to be the worst starting to a blog ever, it's not even remotely entertaining! Well L'Abri was fantastic - the study program I did was informative, intelligent and insightful (wow three word's all beginning with 'I' .... from what I remember of GCSE English that's got to be alliteration!) Sorry I'm trying to be funny but it's not happenng today...I've got the Blues...I'm leaving the States next week and I miss my friends from L'Abri. On the other hand I can't wait to see you guys again!
Anyway back to L'Abri...the group of us who were there for the first few weeks of the term all meshed really well, we didn't piss each other off too much even though we were living in close quaters, and we voluntarily hung out in our free time whicha has gotta be a plus!
Let me explain a little about L'Abri to you. The concept of the place is that people are living together in a community and learning about various aspects of christianity. It was set up in the 60s by Francis Schaeffer in Switzerland and has several branches throughout the world including England, The USA, Canada and even Korea! If anyone is groaning reading this, thinking that nothing Christian could ever be fun you are seriously mistaken... I in no way am giving this place enough justice, maybe my photos will do better. Though seriously, at this place you can ask any questions you have and you don't have to be a christian to go. No question about anything is off limits - if you ever had the feeling that the Christian faith is either stuffy, out of date or boring etc. I recommend you check out L'Abri.
Even though I only stayed for 3 weeks (unfortunately due to having to fly back to good ol' England) I have made some really great friends - Paul, I still maintain literature belongs to the British! Ha! Yes I am immature but I don't care - as Ernest Hemingway said Life is too important to be taken seriously!
So a shout out to evryone at L'Abri especially Erin, Julie, Missi, Alex, Paul, Jack, Jacob, Caleb and Todd. Also all the workers who made my time unforgetable - Joe you are an honourary Brit!
Love all you guys and see you next week,
Amanda xxx
