Day 58 - Legian, Bali
We awake for our first day in Bali, get showered, put the bikini/swim shorts on and head down stairs for some breakfast.
We opted for 'grilled bread with egg' which surprisingly was their version of toast with fried eggs. Si got 2 runny yolks and both of mine were hard and he wouldn't even do the decent thing and offer me one of the runny ones ... evil!
After brekkie we headed down to the beach which is conveniently a 2 minute walk around the corner from the hotel. We walked for a bit and noticed that everyone was lying on the sun beds and nobody had just put their towel down to lie on so we found a couple of beds and prepared for a day of lying in front of the sea doing nothing.
There are 'hawkers' on the beach and we'd read before we came that they will try and sell you pretty much anything ... we were offered the usual hats, sunglasses etc but the one that topped the day off was when a guy came up to Si and offered him a full sized bow and arrow????? Probably not the sort of thing that people are going to buy but we have to give him some credit for being original!
We both started to feel the heat and went in the sea to cool ourselves down, the sea is lovely and warm and the waves are quite strong so we had a fun game of jumping waves before heading to a little hut on the beach for a plate of fresh fruit for lunch. Once we'd finished our fruit we had another game of jumping waves and a bit more sun worshiping until it was time for tea. We found a nice little restaurant overlooking the beach where we started off with a few drinks whilst watching the sun set before sampling our first proper Indonesian meal. Si had peppered beef (it was a bit too spicey for me!) and I had the Nasi Goreng which is the national dish that all the locals eat ... just fried rice with loads of veg and chicken thrown in. It was really nice but the portions they give you are massive! I ate as much as I could and even got some help from Si and we only managed about half of it!
In the restaurant we were sat next to a massive tree and 2 squirrels keep chasing each other around it, they're so funny to watch! One of them stops right next to us and you can see his little heart pounding away from all the chasing he's been doing, bless! There's also lots of little gekko's on the walls they're so fast and most of the ones we saw were only about an inch long.
After tea, some animal spotting and several drinks later we wandered back round to the hotel, had a few more drinks in the room before drifting off to the land of nod.
