What did one Indian cow say to the other? MOOOOVE outta my median!!
Yeah I know I should do stand up!Anyway I have become so use to all the chaos that surrounds me that I have forgotten that it IS actually chaos compared to Edwardsville, IL.So this little blog is dedicated to my friends…the ones I see here everyday…but tend to overlook…The Delhi Cows!
This is so crazy, but I'm beginning to understand the craziness! So I'm sure most of you know that cows here are sacred particularly because one of the most popular Hindu Gods, Shiva "Lord of Destruction", had a bull named Nandi. You don't want to kill Shiva's bull do you?(reincarnation) NO!
Anyway- The cows/bulls!I have noticed that certain cows have certain spots.I have become very familiar with the several cows that are in the same spot…same position everyday near Julie home.Now- understand that I have classified cows by their "spot" or "location".There are median cows, corner cows, middle of the road cows, defiant cows, and lazy shade cows. Each I think has a different personality (or in my mind they do).
The hardcore- I don't care what you think cow are the "middle of the road cows".They do not care what you think- they are going to lay in the road and YOU have to move. These cows are even so bold that the charge each other in the middle of Delhi traffic…the ones who charge are "The Defiant Cows".The median cows chill off in the middle of the intersections.
In Delhi there are large slabs of concrete between the going and coming traffic. The median cows hang here. Now these "Median Cows" could be part of the "Hardcore Gang" only they are just being well behaved at the moment.Or they are just thrill seekers. These "Median Cows" just want to be around the action, but not necessarily cause traffic problems.I have seen a member of the "Hardcore Gang"/"Defiant Cow" charge across 3 lanes of moving traffic and head butt two "Median Cows".He totally kicked them off the median so I called these unhappy cows the "Refugee Cows".They were forced off their happy median home and made to be "Hardcore".THE DRAMA!!
Moving on- "The Corner Cows" and "Shade Tree Cows" are a bit more relaxed. They like to watch the action but at a cool, safe, reserved distance.I (now understanding Delhi traffic…and their lack of laws and order) identify more with these cows. Why run in the middle of the road when you can keep cool under a "quite" (that is a relative term) shade tree?! However, I think that if I were a corner or shade tree cow I would…for vacation…perhaps…or a just for a rush… join the "Hardcore Gang" for a day or two and see what it was like.
As you can see I have had a lot of time to observe these cows and think about each of their personalities.I know I have probably made their personalities up because I'm sure they are just in their spots because it is where they are fed!! HA! But I like thinking they have motive behind their location.
Can you handle more cow talk?If so proceed on…
Sukhdev (my friend and driver) told me about the whole cow running around unattended thing. He says that each cow is registered…yeah like a car! This allows the cows to roam freely and do what they want. Each cow…when register…is marked with a number so the owner knows who his cow is and so does the government. So for example, if my cow was roaming in someone's lawn…pooping….eating trees….throwing trash everywhere…I could call the "cow governmental official" and find out who's cow it is and they would be notified. Now I hear that most cows stay pretty close to home because they get fed there. At night most of the cows are tied up in the home.So not a lot of cow chaos at nigh…good for them because it's hard to see at night. Those "hardcore gang" cows would not want to play chicken in the road at night in Delhi!!If ya hit a cow here…it's a BIG deal…so I don't advise doing that! DRAMA with the owners and more DRAMA…you don't want to mess with that "Hardcore Gang" they know their hood…and da streets are their cribs fooools!! Ha!
Mooooore later!Love! PS Make sure my brothers Victor and Cain read this…(especially Vic) xoxo
