Mel's Overseas Trip
Hi All, Well we thought we were in the wild last week, but we have actually arrived in L.A today to find that this place is VERY WILD!!! Two country girls in one very large city of 3.9 million people, was quite a shock. The day started at 4:45am to catch a 7am flight to Phoenix and then onto Los Angeles. We were interegated no end by US customs and were both sent to the end of the line to fill out our forms properly. (We felt like school kids being yelled at!!) We then finally made it on the flight after just about stripping for the metal detector machine and having a swab test on both of our laptops and cameras. We then were seated in an emergency exit seat, which means we were responsible for opening the door incase there was an accident, however due to this responsibility we would be last off the plane. We agreed nodding our heads, only to have the NAZI air hostess yell that she needed a verbal response!!!! We were shaking in our boots. We then got off the plane in L.A expecting to use a ATM to get US money, however this was not working and the only one in the terminal????? So with no US money we went outside into the unknown...... to see what we could find. What we found was chaos!!!! We have never heard so many car horns beeping at each other in our whole lives than we did this morning. I think we stood there gob smacked for at least 10 minutes, not too sure what to do. LAX airport is a crazy place. We finally found an ATM and jumped on the quickest shuttle bus out of there. An hour later we arrived at Santa Monica Hostel and were safe. We then decided to hit the Santa Monica Beach and shops. L.A is a very interesting place to say the least. We witness an explosion in the underground mains just down the road from our hostel, which sent the police and fire screaming downtown. Madness!!!!! The beach was great, getting a good tan. Went to the Santa Monica Pier and had dinner at the Bubba Gump Shrimp Co. Restaurant from the 'Forrest Gump' movie. Yum!!! Ran home before it got dark!!! Going on a Grand Hollywood tour tomorrow, should be great! Take Care Love Mel P.S Missing the quiet countryside of C.T right now.
