So here I am in San Cristobal, still in Mexico. As it is inland it is slightly colder here so we have had to pull out the woolies. San Cristobal is a great mexican town, clean, lively, lots to do and see and best of all has a great indian restuarant so I had my first curry in over 2 months-yummy!!!
We are staying here 3 nights so im spending this time relaxing and chilling out as the tour has been none stop. We are constantly moving from one place to the next and constantly doing varying activities and constant sight seeing, thus I feel that I need some down time and just relax and chill out.
We visited two local town ships of the Chamula and Zinacantan in which indigenous people live upholding their ancient tradition, beliefs and practices. It was a privilege to visit these communities as it allowed me to see how people of other cultures live and enabled me to gain a deeper understanding of their traditions and beliefs, thus gaining a different perspective on the diversity of the world and different communities and cultures. With understanding has come a greater exceptance and appreciation of the differences, and it has taught me not to impose my own westernised view points and practices on others, just because they live differently to us that doesnot make them unhappy and that they dont have fullfilled lives. It was clearly evident that despit the vast poverty of the communities, the indigenous peolpe were living full, happy and enricher lives. Prehaps simplicity has its riches.
Id best dash as my stomach is growling, so best go fill it. The thought occures to me that we underestimate how lucky we are to be affluent enough to purchase food and products as of when we please, is that not a blessing....
