Travelling down to florida city and the keys. We packed up and had an all you can eat breakfast at sizzles. I tried to make it healthy with fruit but a cinnamon roll crept in. We were going to travel the florida turnpike which takes us down to miami and beyond. We discovered that we could go through the tolls and any charges would be picked up by the hire company and paid fir when we drop the car off. Much easier. An extra charge if $2.95 per day would be incurred.
The toll road started with 6 lanes but generally it was easier driving. No views to speak of apart from lots of Palm trees everywhere.the journey took 4 hours and 262 miles. The speed limits are usually 60 or 65 and everyone keeps to them. People over and under take and weave between lanes but the whole drive was very smooth. We stopped at a resort stop ( our services). This was different as only one services but it serviced both sides of the road being in the middle. Lots of space in florida......
It was very clean and had the usual dunking donuts, KFC etc.
We found the holiday inn which is like a motel all on one story. Our rooms are similar to those at the Rosen but we had our own parking spot outside and an area for seating. The weather when we arrived was 84f. The heat hit us when we got out if the car. We had some rain going down but not much. So far we have been lucky with the weather.
All the bags unpacked and we had a rest before going out for food. We drove to a place called so. Us BBQ which was about a mile down the road. The portions were massive and even Jordan was beaten, he had a sampler menu comprising, chicken, brisket, ribs,corn bread, corn on the cob, sweet potato etc etc. I had turkey which was very soft. Martin had various types of fish washed down with a beer. All this cost $47 ...incredible.
We drove back and once back to our chalet/room the skies darkened and the rain came down. Thunderstorms have been predicted but none so far. I am sat outside writing this blog with a sleeveless top feeling that I am in a sauna. The time is 7.45 (USA time). Wonderful. .....to morrow we travel to key west to stay for a night. This will give us some time to experience the laid back life and the beautiful sunset everyone tells us about. Hopefully the storm will pass.
