Days 39 and 40
Okay, I'm probably as mad as I can be right now. For some reason my last entry wouldn't post days 39 and 40. This will be MY THIRD TIME typing days 39 and 40. So I finally decided to post it in a separate entry. These are the best days I've had so far, so the fact that it's not saving is driving me crazy. Ugh dumb blog, do you like seeing me unhappy? Lol.
So here I go again, and if it doesn't post, I'm throwing my laptop across the room.
Day 39: Saturday, February 8th 2014
INCREDIBLE DAY. Today was the best way to end a boring week. The YSA's from my ward and 2 others went to do baptisms in the Madrid temple. I just felt so relaxed. I felt like I was finally in a place where I didn't have to think about anything. I just had the best feeling being there, it was great. I spent the whole time with Melisa and we have been getting super close and communicating with each other very well! I am now speaking Spanish in full sentences, quicker, and with less thinking. Every time I say something, I have a happy dance in my head. Because honestly it is the most exciting thing, I AM SPEAKING ANOTHER LANGUAGE.
After baptisms we had a delicious lunch in the church next to the temple and then we watched a conference talk. One of the Brothers in the ward found the talk online on his phone in English, so I was able to read it. Anyway, EXCELLENT DAY.
Now I am home. Here is a little piece of advice: don't watch a scary movie when you're in a house all alone in a foreign country! The movie probably ended 20 minutes ago and my heart is still pounding super loud and fast, and my hands are shaking as I write. oooooh.
Day 40: Sunday, February 9th 2014
Buen, buen, buen dia! This was my first time taking the bus to church, and I got there in 10 minutes! So its about the same by car. Well...I got a calling today in church. Melisa and I were both called to be teachers for the 2-4 year olds. I'm excited about this! This means I will have to plan fun little activities in Spanish. I think it might be hard, but I'm open to new challenges, so bring it on!
A woman named Andrea (what a coincidence to have the same name as my mom) has totally taken me under her wing. Not only her, but her family as well. Her husband is the 2nd counselour and also the one who drove us to the temple yesterday. Anyway, today she invited me and Melisa over for lunch. But it ended up being lunch, 2 movies, merienda (the small meal between lunch and dinner) and dinner! haha! She has 5 children and they live in a tiny apartment in the old part of Guadalajara. Seeing how happy and loving they all are made me feel comfortable. It felt like being at home to pray together around the table.
Her son, who is 16, his dream is to come to the United States, and especially Utah because he wants to go to BYU. I told his family that they are welcome, and that my house is theirs. You should have seen his face. It lit up so bright and he started to get teary eyed. "En serio?" He kept saying. En serio! I've lost count of how many people I've told can come stay at my home in Utah. So many people here want to go to Salt Lake City Utah so bad. I guess I've never realized how lucky I truly am. I figured it's a win-win situation because they could come live their dream, and my family could practice a lot of Spanish.
The 13-year-old son, I swear we're twins. We're both the middle child of 5, we both play the viola, we don't eat diary because of digestive problems, and we have the same sense of humor. (well, I actually don't know if that's true because I'm the funniest person in the world, but maybe he comes in close)
They have such a cute, cozy family, and none of them speak English, but it was super great to watch them try! One of the boys said to me in English "You speak Spanish very well." If my day wasn't already perfect, this made it so! These past 2 days I've realized I have not spoken English. I've started to think short sentences and mumble to myself in Spanish.
This is my dream coming true!
