DAYS 62-68
Day 62: Monday, March 3rd 2014
Today I met in the chapel with the brother and sister missionaries and Melisa for lunch. We made rice and lentils, little crunchy flour bites, snacked on chips and played chess and uno. It was really fun and I like spending time with people my age. One Elder missionary is from Arizona so it's nice having someone who speaks English and I can actually speak normal. (That's one thing I miss is talking at my own speed) I never get to hang out with anyone on the weekdays, so it's been nice that the family has been away and I've been able to hang out with Melisa and the awesome people from my church everyday.
Day 63: Tuesday, March 4th 2014
Today has been the most relaxing day of my life. I expected the family to arrive sooner but not until 10 tonight. I went out for a short bit to buy a sandwich for lunch, but that was it. I literally slept all day besides that, and now I feel like I'm just floating around like a ghost. I wish the weather was nicer and I would totally be out in the city center. But growing up in Utah, I've taught myself that when the weather is cold to stay indoors. I hate the cold, I really do! And as much fun as skiing is, it's not worth it to me to pay a lot of money to be cold haha.
Day 64: Wednesday, March 5th 2014
Wow, that a BEAUTIFUL, warm sunny day. I swear the weather here is bipolar. I decided to hop on a bus and see where it makes it final/long stop and see where I end up! Well, it stopped right in front of the hospital. Hmm okay, no thanks. So I enjoyed a lovely walk in the nice weather! I decided I want to be like one of those French girls that you see in the movies; they sit outside a cafe under an umbrella, sipping on tea and eating toast. So I went on a search to find that. Well, I found a cafe, but no outdoor table, no umbrella, and no toast on the menu. Oh well. But instead I ordered these yummy things. hahah that's all I can say because I don't know the name, lol. I have no idea what they were! But the outside was baked (I'm guessing flour or dough) and the inside was stuffed with meat and eggs. yummy yummy. After I walked through the city center and did a little souvenir shopping. There's way to people in the center and especially on a day like this. From there I walked all the way home. Phew. Long walking day. I am exhausted.
Day 65: Thursday, March 6th 2014
Well today was enough to scare me into never walking the streets AND going to my Spanish classes. I went to my class like I do every Monday and Thursday, and there's a creeper there tat's always staring at me...creepily. Anyway today after class he asked me if I have WhatsApp (the texting app) Yes I do, but I said no. He's from Morrocco so he doesn't speak English, but much better Spanish than me because he's been here for a year. Anyway he started following me home! He asked me if I have a boyfriend, and he kept saying that I'm his "novia" (girlfriend) Then he started getting all touchy and throwing his arms around me like we knew each other. Okay no. I don't like you. I got to a point where I thought "Wait. I don't want him to know where I live!" I stopped and kept saying okay bye, hasta luego, and he tried to kiss me goodbye! Gross. I just pulled away and said no. I hope I never see him again. Later was a really stressful day because I was with the children all afternoon and night and I was just exhausted and stressed.
Day 66: Friday, March 7th 2014
Barcelona, here I am! Today we took a train to Barcelona! It is a popular city to visit in the more east of Spain. So yes that means beach! Although I haven't seen it yet because we arrived here late. We came to our beautiful and spacious apartment of 4 bedrooms, kitchen, living room, and a terrrace over-looking the city. I have my own room and a bathroom :) so I'm a happy camper. We went for dinner at a popular restaurant. I don't know if it's called a restaurant because you don't sit down. It's a bar , so just one long counter and everybody stands around it and waitors walk back and forth carrying different kinds of tapas (finger foods) Every food item has a stick in it, and when it's time to pay the bill, you count the amount of sticks you have and there'sa certain amount. Really different! I enjoyed it :)
Day 67: Saturday, March 8th 2014
Barcelona is beautfiul and the city is great! The weather was HOT, really nice, it's a great place and I got to eat interesting food. I ate a snail. (ew, btw) I felt like my NOT-gallbladder was hurting pretty bad after that. I can't explain what I ate but I will do my best: they are like onions, except at the bottom it isn't a ball it's just a straight, white part. You hold the (whatever it is) by the green part and the bottom you dip into a sauce and put the whole thing in your mouth and pull away the leaves. Okay that sounded horrible, I can't explain it. A good way to say this was that it was really messy and this is the first restaurant I've been to where they give you an apron and gloves to eat, haha.
Day 68: Sunday, March 9th 2014
Nice, lovely and HOT day here in Barcelona. We spent the day on the beach and had a big lunch. I ate a seafood paella with lots of sea animals in the rice. I didn't like it as much as I LOVED the oranges and chicken paella I had in Benicasim. There was also some kind of parade for carnival days I'm guessing. I believe it was some sort of Latin American tradition because all the people in the parade appeared to be Latin American (darker skinned) There were ladies in little dresses doing a dance on the beach while they walked through the parade. There was music, dancing and lots of fun! Barcelona is a really charming city and I can see why-you've got a city on a beach. If you love a city life and a beach life, Barcelona is the place for you! I think I would like living somewhere like that, although it would just get too darn hot, and with people everywhere all the time would just drive me crazy. Great for vacationing though! There were lots of talented musicians in the streets and a talented sand castle artist. (picture in my Barcelona album) I realized at the end of this trip I've used every form of public transportation: Train to Barcelona, taxis, buses and subway. Very beautiful vacation and now I'm tired zzzzz.
I want to say thank you to those of my family members who have been posting messages on my blog! I always want to reply, but I don't think I can :/ So I'm saying thanks now and letting you know how much it means to me to hear from home! I thought that coming here would just be so easy and that I wouldn't miss anything back at home, but it's actually not true. So getting a little message really is a treat!
