Hey everyone hows it going?
I havnt updated my journal for a while as ive been pretty busy job searching and the last place i was in - Waitomo, was in the countryside and so internet was pricey to use there. We left Waitomo yesterday, we spent four nights there, longer than we thoght as we had a wicked time there. Even though its a really small village, we met some cool people and there is sooo much stuff to do there. There are loads of caves here, over 50km in fact. So we went on a caving adventure called the expedition, a 6 hour long activity and about four hours in the cave itself. And boy it was the hardest thing ive done in my life! On that particular day in was pouring down with rain so there was water gushing into the caves and so we had to wade through sometimes and it made a tremendous amount of noise. It was pitch blak inside but we had lights on our helmets to light the way. We were in a group of five, and the guide was really nice, but as this was the most difficult cave adventure, he didnt hold our hand through the cave, it was more find your own way of climbing and stuff. We all had harnessess on and we abseiled about 30 metres into the cave. At the end of the day he told us we travelled about 5 km into the cave. We saw really cool formations too, loadsa stalagtites and cool cave stuff. That evening we went down to Ruakuri cave as you can see gloworms at night there, we got a ride from this other english couple at the hostel and we all took our torches into the forest on the track and we saw some gloworms in the cave and on in the rainforest, it was really amazing, as it was so dark and they glowed an illuminous blue colour - never seen anything like it. And whilst we walked back a possum suddenly appeared from nowhere and scared the hell out of luke! it was so funny! when it saw us it ran all the way to the top of a nearby tree! The hostel we stayed at was so cosy and friendly, we got to know a girl, emily 21 who was working there, a kiwi herself and she let us feed the calfs, because it was on a farm, so there was horses and a pig, a goat and a deer and two calfs! Oh and a cat MJ who loves attention and we kept feeding it, even though it was nextdoors cat.
We also visited a very unique rabbit shearing shed, sounds mad and it is, they are Angora rabbits and they have so much fur!! it just grows and grows, so what they do is shear it off and you can watch. It was quite entertaining! They get shaven every 3 months, and they like oit as it cools them down, If you didnt, then they would eventually die of overheating. I took some pictures of them i will put them on facebook. On the last night we went to the pub and we had such a laugh, i really miss it now!
