Dropping the car off at autobarn was a bit of a relief and thankfully they refunded the tent in full without question so it was a great start to our Cairns holiday.
As the week was designed for chilling out, that's exactly what we did. Sadly Louise informed us that this would be her last week with us and she'd be flying home rather than to Melbourne.
We spent most of the week by the Lagoon or watching movies. We visited the Art Gallery which was really interesting and went to the Botanical Gardens which, weren't the best we'd seen but still had lots of wierd and wonderful plants.
Naomi and I treated ourselves to tickets for Menopause the musical which was hilarious!! They'd changed the words to well known songs i.e 'Stand up and fan' as opposed to 'stand by your man'! They also gave out free tena lady!!!
Obviously there were nights out at the Woolshed - no point being in Cairns without regular trips there. One night they even had goldfish racing - long thin tanks of water and then a representative from each Country present to blow through a straw behind the fish to make it go faster!! Haha Unfortunately the UK came second to the USA - Rubbish!
The highlight of the week had to be the Great Barrier Reef. It was an early morning to check onto the boat with a disappointing start when Naomi and I were told we couldn't claim our free dive - we stupidly admitted to having used an inhaler in the last 5 years! Doh. It was all good though as the staffs' enthusiasm was contagious especially that of Elvis, the entertainer.
Snorkelling was brilliant, the reef is really amazing and so beautiful. It's hard to believe that the staff said it looked dull in comparison to summertime as it was still so bright and colourful. We saw baby Nemo and reef sharks. Louise and Lucy Scuba Dived and got to swim between corals.
Lunch was a massive all you can eat buffet and on the way back, accompanied by Elvis' singing (we obviously joined in alot), we got a complimentary glass of wine and cheese and crackers, what better way to end an awesome day trip!!!
As it was Louise's last night we went out for Mexican and thought we should try somewhere new so went to Gilligans as it was ladies night so they had free champagne for a couple of hours. It was the most disgusting 'champagne' ever!!! Ultimately we ended up in the woolshed!!
