Well hello again,
So, we went out in Brisbane to meet Lucy's old schoolfriend Nicola who hasn't changed a bit apart from adopting a very strong Australian accent!! We had a really good evening and then Naomi, Louise and I called it a night while lucy continued on to the local club.
The following day we spent the morning by the lagoon again before heading over to an area called Redcliffe to meet Naomi's Dad's cousin (think that's right) and his family. On the way we drove past a kite festival where they had some pretty awesome kites including a 5m long shark!!! Very impressive. Anyway...Hilton and his family were very welcoming and had a gorgeous house so we got stuck into wine and cheese while the grandchildren - 6 girls and a boy would you believe - had their dinner and then we were served up a feast too. One of Hiltons daughters had left to travel 10 years ago with a backpack and only returned a few weeks ago with an American husband and 2 children!! Haha Don't worry Mum, don't think that'll happen with us.
On the way back I got breathalised which was extremely nervewracking even though I'd only had one glass hours before so it was a relief when it came up zeros - think the others were all holding their breaths!
We started our Noosa Bushcamp adventure the next day and on arrival were a bit dubious as to what we'd got ourselves into when we saw the bush toilets and the bush dorms but actually we had a really great time. The beds were hammock style bunkbeds, but probably not what you're thinking from that description, and very comfortable. We also had running water in the form of a tap on the side of a tree so really it was luxury.
The first day there was our 1 day self guided canoe trip where we canoed to the lake 3 to a canoe and then walked to the beach where it began to bucket down with rain!!! So, we found the bar which, was closed and so we turned the heaters on and dried off a bit waiting for the rain to calm down before making our way back.
We then watched loads of videos and had pizza and goon and played drinking games with the Irish boys which was fun.
The rain continued through the night and next morning so we didn't get to do the overnight canoe trip but it did clear up later on so we could light the campfire to toast marshmellows and play more drinking games. All good fun and the guys who ran the camp were great - they ran errands for us and everything!
We spent another night in Noosa to see some of the town. We went to the beach and did the coastal walk which was more of a woodland walk and longer than we thought. Very pretty though.
Rather than go straight to Hervey Bay we decided to detour to Maryborough where the author of Mary Poppins was born. They had a show (fair) on that was good fun - the ghost train was actually scary! Lucy had her tarot cards read which was interesting and we ate loads of food.
We got up early for the free walking tour where we made loads of old biddy friends and even had lunch with a few of them - by chance. We took some photos of a mini time cannon which we're sure you'll all find hilarious when we uplload them and of course the Mary Poppins statue aswell.
We have now arrive in Hervey Bay and go to Fraser Island tomorrow - at 6.30 AM!
People did get evacuated from there a couple of days ago due to bad weather so fingers crossed it'll be nice and sunny for us tomorrow although we don't mind the idea of evacuation just so long as it's in a helicopter! Haha
Lots of love
Deb and Lu
