The adventures of Lucy...
Tuesday 2nd May- Headed to the bus station in the morning to catch a bus to Napier to see relative. The scenery was incredible- i tried to read my book but spent the majority of the time staring out of the window!I spoke to a nice lass on the bus, and when we got to Napier John offered to take her to her hotel- it was such a dive. So he brought her back to the house, had dinner, then we took her to a nicer hotel; such a typically pleasant NZ thing to offer to do. Also found out his son is a guy who stayed at my house in the UK- crazy!Went to bed and slept for over 12 hours!!
Wednesday 3rd May- john and i spent the morning looking at our family tree. I then headed into town and i checked out the Art Deco buildings that Napier is so famous for. I checked out the Napier museum, and went home to meet more relatives. I met john's daughter and two sons- all of whom where so nice. they were all so interested in the family tree that i had with me. We also talked about our Holy Cow memories from Taupo!!
Thursday 4th May- this day was interesting! We had a tsunami warning!!!! I woke up at 4 and simply could not get back to sleep- i then got woken up at 5.30 as John had turned the radio up really loud; i then heard about an earthquake happening in Tonga, and that the West coast- hawkes bay was expecting a Tsunami! I rushed out of bed and decided to call home- great excuse! John said that we could go to the hills- wow this was serious!the warning was finally downgraded though! Phew!As i had been up for 3 hours i decdied to go for a run- it was bliss!John then drove us to Te Mata peak- breath taking views; was fantastic- certainly didnt see any huge waves coming towards the shoreline!!We then went to another lookout point in the afternoon; bluff Hill. We then visited the family and i got to meet yet family- this time 4 young girls; they were all so cute!We then stopped off at John's friend's house and had G+T and crackers.
Friday 5th May- Took John's bike out today- wnet along marine Parade to the NZ Aquarium; highlights included crocodile, sea horse, turtles. Then went through a glass enclosure with shark and stingray swimming about 1 metre from my head- great stuff!then went to Marine Land, and Posum world!I then cycled to Hamish + Mandie's (relatives), and showed them my NZ photos. Then Bec and Si came over for dinner; Bec and I got on so well- they said im a White at heart!
Saturday 6th May- today i decided to watch sunset and run to Bluff Hill- was out of the house by 5.40; however, there was no sunset- instead i waited for an hour in the freezing wet cold weather! Oh well! I t hen checked out the Napier Prison- awesome stuff! We saw an original letter from one of the prisoners to the local radio station asking for a song request!!The prison is now actually a backpackers!Got a call from Madeline just before i left- saying how nice it was to meet me! How cute! Got a bus back to Wellington and had the most ridicolous taxi journey to Northland in Wellington where yet more distant relatives live! The taxi driver went past the house 3 times but of course i didnt know it was the house!I only paid 1/3 of the fare- too right!Ended up intruding on a 14 year old gir's birthday party!
sunday 7th May- had the most amazing pancakes for breakfast made with yoghurt- delicious! The tired teenagers were far from talkative- felt a bit awkward! Decided to check out the walk to town and try and find where the NZ Symphony Orhcestra offices were located- in preperation for my new job!In the eve i went with Chris' wife Maria to a cool little cafe to watch some jazz... spoke to the sax player who told me to ask the boss for a cafe job. hey presto... within two days of being in Wellington i had a paid job in a cool little cafe!Met a really nice texan guy called Trey- we exchanged numbers and he invited me to go indoor climbing after work tomorrow!
monday 8th May- went for a very early morning run to prepare me for my first day with the orchestra! Had morning coffee with the marketing department- got to meet everyone which was cool. Then met Trey and went climbing - was such fun but a bit nerve racking going quite high! We then met up with some of his friends and went to a Malaysian curry house.
