The adventures of Lucy...
mONDAY 17TH aPRIL-didnt have this day!!!
Tuesday 18th- arrived at the airport at 4.30 am, expecting to be picked up by a pre paid private taxi- nope! Had to pay for my own shuttle bus, Got to the hostel expecting to be met, no sat outside for an hour waiting for the guy to open the door. Finally got in, feeling quite cold!!My first impression of NZ was interesting!!Went to the supermarket and kept trying to speak Portuguese!!Think i have more culture shock coming back into a western cultured society than i did when i went to Brazil!Met up with George in Starbuck's- talked about everything typically English, very funny!Walked around and watched an amazing opening ceremony for an art exhibition. Traditional Maori talk, and rituals- so cool!Made dinner at my hostel, and ther was not much of an atmoshpere. Fianly got speking to two Italian guys, chilled with them for rest of the evening.
Wednesday 19th- Finally got a call from the working holiday reps acknowledging me! They moved me to a better hostel. Left my passport in the other hostel safe- so had to run back and get it!Doh!
Thurs 20th- had a 2 dollar chair massage whilst trying to book my Kiwi Experience- spent most of the time laughing as the chair was so bumpy!!In the evening went to the main backpacker Globe bar. I played in a pool tournament and won 60 dollar bar tab for being the loudest spectator for the horizontal bungy competition!!Then met two guys who asked me if i wanted to go to a golf tournament- very suss, but they asked another girl so we decided to go!We went to a few more bars with them then headed home.
Friday 21st- went and finalised my booking for Kiwi Experience- feeling a little worse for wear!Got picked up by Brad and Tony and we started our two hour drive to Raglan- supposed to be best place in NZ for surfing!Played hilarious spot the tractor game.
Saturday 22nd- headed up to the golf course, and started the 18 hole course. We only got to 4 and then decided to have a rest as we wer all thirsty!!We chilled for a few hours then played a few more holes!Headed back to the club house and the fun began! Was such a crazy evening, spoke to so many random kiwi's and had a delicious Hungi dinner (traditional NZ dinner, all cooked underground in huge Kiln like ovens). Me and nat tried to buy drinks with our cards but they didnt work, so the bar maanger drove us to the local town- so nice of him!Got back at 5.30.
Sunday 23rd- got up to watch the guys surfing, then headed back to Auckland. Me and Nat met up with two guys i had been in email contact with- Thor, who works as a chef in Auckland, and Luke- a Canadian guy who is travelling here.
Monday 24th- went to catch the Kiwi Experience bus but it went straight past me!Ran down the road chasing it and manageg to get the guys attention at the back of the bus- must have looked pretty stupid waving my arms up and down in the middle of the street!!The bus had to drive back round to pick up my stuff, then we were off!At least i did nto have to bother introducing myself to everyone- i was 'the girl who missed the bus'!We went up a very windy hill to Mount Eden- checked out the old volcanic craters, then went onto the motorway--- where we broke down!!!
