We my goodness what a week!
It was the beauty contest night...pure fun as you can imagine, ohhhh who will win, ohhhhh will they like the crown, ohhhh will the music work, ohhh will people come and ohhhh will they abide by the rules...NO alcohol, No munga munga (fighting)and NO jiggy jiggy!!! (will leave that to you imagination!)
Before i start with this weeks affairs lol literally let me fill you in on a short story i forgot to mention last week about us going out to Bri (bbq) WE headed off on the backie in the dark me em and sally in the back, all loaded up ready for some grub and wine...to cut a long story short we got a bit lost in the bush, which was hindered by the lengnth of the grass (stop laughing) and by the darkness...oh and Rick hit a tree...good times, the best thing to do as we were lost was def to let Sally lead the way...she knew the spot well...did i mention sally is a dog? So out she got and we were soon hot on the trail to know where...i say no where she did take us to the sights...to what can only be described as a small stone hendge...lovley but not quite right...any way luckily she picked up anthor sent and got us home to ours when we decided to try another night and just have the Bri at ours...we had the Ipod blearing with some random tunes from Elton, spice girls and kings of leon! lol
Right back to this week...after having only a few children turn up is very sad especially as Rick (Mr Rick to you!) has worked so hard, any way we cracked on playing and having the general giggles that go along with botswana life! I did a work out class one morning...which maybe they liked maybe they didnt...kept me entertained anyway!!! Em was busy making sashes for the beauty contest and we got to work on the crowns...photos to follow!
Friday after being shouted at by Mr Rick...NO KIDS, NO JOBS!!! They did seem to pick up their acta bit maureen actually went and got some kids at the end of school and all of a sudden myself, em and sarah were surrounded my 53 kids...mental so we made friendship bracelletes with them and knecklaces...we are now out of beads lol it was so lovley, being the complete sap that i am i had a little bit of a tear!!! It was girls night in on friday with Mr Rick being in Jo'burg for the Lions tour. So Sarah, Em and I drove to FRancis town went to Pick n pay for wine and chocolate and got an idian take away!!! YUM...drove back and ate...the plan was to watch a dvd and consume sopious amounts of alcohol but sadly...we were all very tired...but chatted and had our mouths blown off my our curry...well me and sarah did Ems wasn't very nice but ate it like it was yogurt rather than curry!!!
Saturday....the big day arrives...WE get to top Banana after fetching the meat from the farm...no one in their right mind would eat this old skanky smelly meat but they seemed to think it was ok. Myself and sarah tried to help KIddibunya make fat cakes (like doughnuts without the jam and even more fatty!) But we were rubbish and just ended up covered in dough and being laughed at!
Love is in the air!
Andina the driver has a bit of a crush on our Em so we have spent plenty of time taking the piss out of them...poor Adina is soooo shy its really nasty...oh well continue with the Eastenders drama!
THIS MADE ME CHUCKLE OUT LOUD for quite some time:
When describing pregnancy in botswana Mr Ricks anacdote is:
When you have a baked beans you don't always know which bean it is from that can that made you fart!!!! Small pleasures i know!
Right the beauty contest...All went well and though i'm 90% sure that there were some drunks there..mainly due to the staggered walking but also the empty beer bottles outside...that i know of there was no Munga munga or jiggy jiggy!
Em was a judge and i was on photography...what fun...what was meant to start at 7pm started at 8:30pm and to be honest i thought was gonna be laughable...but actually it was very touching...this was a real community project in full swing...people coming and supporting a project and having fun while doing it! There were 8 girls and 6 boys, they started with partners doing some tradional dancing which was lovely and for me (sap) quite emotional. The boys all dressed in their suits...some of which didnt match or were too big for them, the girls in evening dresses and heels gliding round to music...it was so lovely and they all put so much effort in...There hair had all been done and it was all very serious. In the 2nd part they had to answer a question on what they would do to help their community if voted Mr OR Miss Top Banana...they all talked about giving their children help and guidance they they hadn't got, getting dysabled people to top banana, about promoting HIV and Aids and getting rid the stigma attched, promoting a healthier lifestyle and about men and woman having better relationships in life and also being sexuallly aware.
This was all so lovely to hear because it shows that they do see the change and want it but also because there are two dysabled boys, one of which was not walking but thanks to Sarah and Rick is much better...just by being given the attention he needed. And showing not to be scared of the unknown.
Also the female leader Queen at Top banana, a very inteligent strong woman, had answered a question we had posed to her on friday:
Us: Queen why are you not married
Queen: Because i do not want to be beaten or my money taken from me
This statement is just horrifying...and made us reallly touch back down on the goings on the this country!
On a lighter note im thinking of not sellin Em for cows now as i'd rather she wasn't beaten! HOwever as the name Andina means 'i have nothing" how sad is that...maybe Em would be a nice leaving gift...whats ya thoughts susan?
I'd love to tell you about the goings on at the rugby club last saturday when went to see the Lions game on sat, but i cnt because some of you know Halli and nothing can be said! OHHHH secrets!!!
All in all still having a lovely time, Finally having hot showers which i good, off to pick and pay now for some food shopping...gonna try and by a toaster not only because were sad but we have brought JAM good Jam!!! and need to toast this stuff they call bread to make it nice! lol
Off to sperm now!!!
LOve to all Lucy Locket xxxx oh and Em xxxxx
