Lucy's Travels
Wednesday 8th February - Up early to say goodbye to our friends also in a colouful van. Then off to a seal colony where you can wonder along the beach and take photos of them. We then went to the Whale Watch to see if the boat was sailing. We thouht the weather was a lot worse today but the boat was still going despite a warning to passengers about the 2 metre swirl! It was so rough people were throwing up everywhere! I just had to sit in one place because I was getting soooo dizy and feeling ill, Dan was fine!!! When we saw our first whale it was awsome! I thought we would be able to see a lot more of them but you only see about 2 8's of their body because the rest lies under the water. They are huge animals and I felt really lucky to be able to see them as not many people do. Except the Thames incident, which we wont go into! We saw about 3 whales on the trip and about fifty hectare dolphins. Once we stepped off the boat and I had stopped kissing the ground we jumped straight in the car and had about a 5 hour drive down to Akoroa. We arrived about 7pm and ate cold beans and mouldy toast!!
Thursday 9th February - Spent the morning walking around Akoroa a pretty French town still owned by a French Colony so most locals still have a French accent. However, it spent the rest of the day pouring down so had to have a quiet one beating Dan at cards and watching other cars get stuck on the camp site grass.
Friday 10th February - Left Akoroa at 7:30am to get to Christchurch for 10am to drop off the van. Left our beloved van where the man didnt even check it, which was a good thing really because he didnt notice the window chip! We then put our bags back on our backs - ouch! and then onto a cheap hostel. Had to run aroun town all day picking up holiday vouchers for Fiji, buying more maleria tablets and more flight tickets. Went for a curry and beer and slept in a real bed for the first time in over 3 weeks!
Saturday 11th February - Had a wonder around Christchurch market and went to see Narnia because we have seen some of the filming points and its all the rage over here at the moment!
Sunday 12th February - Having a quiet and cheap internet day!
