Cairns was nice we stayed there for 4 nights it wasn't really what I expected there wasn't a great deal to do as the whether was pretty crap so we wondered round all the shops and down to the Marina there was also a free public pool which we spent an afternoon at before the heavens opened! We booked on to do a day trip out to the great barrier reef me to do snorkelling and Louise to do a intro dive and snorkelling which was a really good day saw 4 reef sharks and a giant sea turtle swam right next to us, also got free food and unlimited cups of tea!! Not to be taken for granted while backpacking! We stayed a gilligans which was a really nice hostel above gilligans bar and night club, the only down side was that we were sharing with two of the smelliest dutch boys u have ever met! Needless to say we didn't swap Facebook names with them!
We left cairns and had a 6 hour journey down to Townsville where we saw a lot of devastation left behind from the cyclone and recent flooding! Whole house and businesses had collapsed or been swept away very sad to see. Makes me very grateful to live in England that doesn't have to suffer as badly from mother nature!
We arrived in Townsville and got the short ferry over to magnetic island and checked into bungalow bay, there are spiders as big as ur hand, massive bats and birds squawking left right and centre, no surprise that me and Lou have turned into massive girls every bug that falls on us we jump a mile and the tiniest noise outside our hut and I'm awake! Funniest moment when Louise ran screaming down the walk way from the smallest butterfly! That being said it is very nice! Just chilled out and did fairly well in the trivia quiz! We were told we could feed wallabies so got our free food and got on the bus thinking we would be going to a park or something like that but when we got there it was a car park full of wallabies waiting to be fed very random! We move onto Airlie beach tomorrow where we will do our whitsundays which I'm looking forward too! Hope all is well back home xx
