Airlie beach is so nice and the first time I have felt like i am in Australia! We stayed at a really scabby hostel on the first two nights called beaches it was filthy but pretty funny as I was on the top bunk and didn't have a ladder so had to make a run up and scrabble onto it the ceiling was also fairly low making it even harder....that night was St. Patricks day so we went out and got hammered as is only right needless to say the bed got a lot more challenging after large amounts of alcohol! We then went and booked our whitsundays which leave from here and because of the package got two nights free accommodation in nomads which thank fully came with a ladder and air con-heaven!
The whitsundays were amazing they are a group of 74 islands in close proximity of each other the largest being the Whitsunday island! There are so many different companies and boats to go on all of them pretty much are 3 days 2 nights on the boat which was what we went for on a boat called new horizons it was a beautiful boat like an old fashioned pirate ship that had been renovated underneath to make space for cabins there were 33 of us on the boat including Vic who was in his 60s backpacking around and Patricia the crazy spanish lady, Who taught us all to flamenco on the deck after too much to drink! The first day when we were heading out it was hammering down making the water so choppy and the boat like one of the pirate ship rides u go on at the fair, the crew told us to get used to it as it would probably be like this for the whole trip so we proceeded to crack open the booze and dance in the rain!
The next day we woke up to amazing sunshine and had a massive pinch myself moment as I sat drinking tea and eating toast on a stunning boat in the middle of the ocean! We then went over to Whitehaven beach where the sand is so fine it's like baby powder, we got told as well that the government have only ever allowed NASA to remove any sand from the beach to use to polish their telescopes! (see I'm learning as well as having fun)
The rest of the day and day after we spent sunbathing on deck and snorkelling! The people on our boat were lovely as well and on the second night we played eurovision dance contest where every different country had to teach a dance from there to the rest of the boat, needless to say the hokie cokie went down a storm!
