Today was a day I would rather forget. But, a blog is a blog so I will tell you what happened. If you don't want to hear it, skip to the next paragraph for the evening :)
The day - Got up at 6 to get ready to go to Milford Sounds. Its a very long day but people make the long journey because Milford Sounds is a fiordland that is said to be one of the most stunning places in the world. Some even consider it the 8th wonder of the world. We had booked to go the day before, but our drivers had messed up and they needed some people to change the day they went. As with changing glacier groups and doing everyones washing up, we knew no one else would move so me and Mike, Phil and Ash and Jo and Kallum moved. It didn't affect us too much so we didn't mind at the time it just meant we booked another night at Nomads, costing us money when we could have used one of our Base passes. We didn't have to but booked the extra night thinking it would make things easier instead of checking out really early to go to Base before getting on the bus. So anyway, I'd been feeling really ill and the trip was quite expensive and a long way away, so I didn't know if i wanted to go. But the people who had gone on the day we were meant to had said it was amazing and they had gorgeous weather and saw dolphins! So i was looking forward to it. Anyway, we had changed our day with some other people, but those people didn't get on the bus today! They had moved, like us, as a favour, but the drivers hadn't forwarded this so they didn't get on! Obviously they were gutted and it wasn't a great start the day, we all felt really bad for them. As soon as we left I realized me and Mike should have got off to let them on - i was feeling the worst i had all week anyway and could have gone at a later date. But, we started the journey. Drove for 2 hours to get to a little town where we stopped off for some food and drink for half an hour, then got back on the bus for an hour before stopping at "Knobs Flat", a toilet block on the side of the road for buses going through to Milford Sounds, which is just before you enter the national park. This is where things went very wrong! Another bus driver pointed out to our driver that the brake fluid was leaking and spilling onto the floor from one of our front wheels. He wasn't lying, and this meant we couldn't carry on in the bus. We assumed we would have another bus come and pick us up but that would mean we would miss our boat cruise in Milford Sounds. There was no cell phone reception so all the driver could do was make an emergancy call to the town we had stopped at, and get someone to pick us up. Our journey to Milford Sounds was well and truely over, and we were only an hour away! So, we sat in the bus at k*** Flat for over an hour before a bus picked us up and took us back on the hour journey to the town. We waited at the town (where there was nothing to do) for nearly 2 hours, then made the 2 hour journey back to Queenstown. So we got back to Queenstown just gone 6 - if we'd done the full day we would have been back at 8 so it was very frustrating as you can imagine and the air con in the bus had made my cold even worse! Such a frustrating day, and it was Kallums birthday!! You could either try and get your money back or re book. Then they told us there might not be room rfor us to re-book! Obviosuly this wasn't good enough so they added an extra bus for the next day. I wasn't sure what to do, felt frustrated and poorly but the other couples only had one full day left so booked it for the next day, so me and Mike did the same. Would have been happier to wait till later in the week but wanted to go with the others, so we re-booked for the following day. Had planned a big night out for Kallum so it wasn't great knowing we had to be up at 6, again!
The evening - Kallums 25th! Got ready to go out and me and Mike, Phil and Ash, Jo and Kallum and Yakult and Dora all went out for a meal. Only a little pasta/pizza bar but it was nice food! Then we met up with some others and went on to Cowboys, a bar themed like the Wild Wild West! It was really well done, saddles for bar stools, a giant bear when you walk in and everything was custom made - the pool table was worth 20 grand! They had free games including pool, a curling like game and a mechanical bull too which was good fun! We'd put up banners and baloons for Kal as a suprise and all signed a card for him. After a few games I was still feeling really poorly - was gutted but knew i should get some sleep so headed home. Made sure Mike went back though after he'd walked me back! Went to bed as soon as I got in, had been a very long day!
