Lucy's Kiwi and Oz Experience
Had an early start this morning, 6am! Bit too ealry for us, then we found out our names weren't on the list, so the day didn't get off to a great start... was our best day yet though!! We had seen photos of Abel Tasman and knew we'd love to go and knew this would be our only chance, and this trip seemed perfect. A boat to a bay, then kayaking back, stopping of to look for seals!! Slept through the hour journey to Abel Tasman, and when we arrived it looked just like the photo!! Normally you dont expect things to looks as good as in the adverts but this was even better :-D It was the perfect day for it too, sunny all day with clear blue skies ! Our group was wicked, me, Mike, 2 English girls from our bus, 2 Dutch girls, an Aussie girl and our guide, Craig, who was brilliant. Got the Aqua boat which was really fun, like a bigger speed boat, and got some incredible views, like nothing i've ever seen. Just sooo beautiful, no hotels, roads, every beach was deserted.... gorgeous. The boat took us to Bark Bay which was gorgeous and we set up our kayaks and got ready to go! We were in pairs so there were 4 boats, took a while to get the hang of it, I was at the front navagating and Mike was at the back steering, but it was really good fun! Except, being at the back, Mike kept slacking!! Never impressed when i found out I'd be doing all the hard work while he'd be chilling out sunbathing! Far to cheeky :-P Hard work and we're definately going to ache tommorow, but definately worth it! We went to a little island and saw some seals!!! I was rubbish at spotting them at first as they blended in with the rocks but when i saw them they were sooo cute!!! Saw about 5, was very happy :-) Paddled round the island and headed down "the mad mile" which was pretty bumpy! Then we headed towards another gorgeous deserted bay. There were so many! Stopped off and had some lunch, were in no rush so had a swim, sunbathed, really was perfect. :-) Got back in our Kayaks and headed further south. Saw even more amazing views and went to another island, which has no predators at all on it. Got to see my favourite sight of the day, two baby seals playing in a little rock pool! Were sooo cute :-D Were on a big stretch of open water alongside another group of four boats and Craig and the other guide decided we'd have a sailing race! Held all our boats together and made a sail out of our picnic blanket. Tied two corners to the paddles which Mike and Craig held up and me and the other girl on the other corner held the ends to make a big sail! Was good fun, little bit of cheating might have gone on from both teams but we won!! Got pretty competative at the end, one boat ended up being capsised :-p Ended up on a beach famous for having the "split apple rock" , a massive rock, perfectly halved and split open... looked some someone had chopped it with a knife but happened completely naturally! Climbed the rocks over to it then swam back, before our last bit of kayaking back to where we started. Me and Mike swapped places in the boat, but didn't work as well!! Thought Mike would stop slacking but nope! Haha, was good fun and think our bickering kept the others entertained... luckily for everyone wasn't a long stretch back. Was such a good trip!!! Said our goodbyes, got changed, then got the bus back. Slept again, but got majorly sunburnt on just the one side of my face which looks ridiculous! Not as bad as Mike though... life jacket line, sunglasses line and from where his hat was on backwards it looks like he's been wearing a headband! Very funny for everyone else but hoping it doesn't last long, look like we've ran away from the circus! Got back, had showers, and went for a walk. Got some chips and was sooo happy that they sold Heinz Ketchup... one of the things I didnt realize I would miss so much, the stuff here is not the same! My new luxury possesion haha! Had loads of blogs to catch up, now I'm off to play pool then heading to bed! Tiring day but brilliant
