Hey everyone!
So in a bit less than 12 hours, Allie and I will be embarking on our roadtrip across the country. You can see the route if you click on the map on this homepage. But, before we get to that, let me tell you a bit about my day.
So, I was thinking Allie has a lot of stressful packing and goodbyes to do, so I would stay out of her way, so this morning I headed into DC on the metro. Looked out of the window when I woke up, and it was grey and cloudy. It has been raining recently so I thought it would be good to wear jeans and a tshirt, good wet weather clothing. An hour later, i stepped off the metro at Arlington national cemetary and uh-oh, not a cloud in sight. Never mind, I think, jeans aren't that bad. I could not have been more wrong. By the time I get to JFK (very lovely grave, and I love that I have visited it) I'm starting to be pretty dehydrated. By the grave of the unknown soldier, I'm extremely sweaty and disgusting. I then viewed the women's memorial, by which time I was sweaty and disgusting. However, I soldiered on, walking across the bridge and right into DC, up to the Lincoln memorial. I get to the top, see Lincoln sitting there in his chair, and all of a sudden I simultaneously feel sick and in pain, and Lincoln starts spinning in his chair (which I am reasonably sure he does not do for everyone). Then I come to and find a very nice, concerned Italian man trying to check I'm ok. If you have to pass out, might as well do it dramatically right? the I have a dream speech was playing in the background and everything.
So after I came round and drank about 5 bottles of water, I headed on to the WW2 memorial, the Washington Memorial and the Capitol building. The I went to eh Smithsonian because it was cool (in the temperature sense). I had an overpriced lunch, drank 2 more bottles of water (I had no idea how much I had dehydrated myself) and spent the rest of my day wandering around the exhibits. I really enjoyed myself.
So, as far as the roadtrip goes, we are going to; chicago, Big Sious State Park, Badlands National Park, Mount Rushmore, Wind cave National Park, Rocky Mountain National Park, Mesa Verde National Park, Four Corners, Grand Canyon (north rim) Valley of fire state park, Yosemite National Park and San Francisco. We are camping in all of these apart from Chicago and San Francisco. I am so excited! If you feel the need for a more detailed itinerary, Mum, Dad, Chloe and Josh have a copy. I don't know how often I'll be able to get in touch but I will have lots of awesome photos to show you all when I get home.
I hope you have a great few weeks, and I'll see you soon.
Lots of love, Lucy xxx
