Last day - well, last day if you don't count tomorrow's travelling - and a slightly complicated one.
Chloe went off early this morning with her friend Kim to a recording of the chat show Maury. She's back now (6.30ish) but I haven't heard any reports yet.
Meanwhile I decided to take the car back to JFK this morning so as not to be pratting around with it at an uncivilised hour tomorrow, which was all fine and actually quite good In that I cleverly sussed out the public transport route back to Manhattan ($7.25 vs $60 in a cab) but briefly very bad in that I left my phone in the car, realised in a heart-stopping moment half an hour later and had an anxious dash back to find they had it waiting for me.
I stayed on the subway up to the upper east side, intending to see an exhibition at the Guggenheim. This, however, turned out to be closed on Thursdays (who closes on Thursdays, for heaven's sake?) so I went to the design museum more or less next door and saw a fantastic exhibition of tomfoolery from Van Cleef and Arpels - not what you'd call understated, but definitely what you'd call fab.
After that I walked across Central Park, which is now much more springlike than when we left New York ten days or so ago, and took a cab down to a cinema on 34th St to see a film called Hanna, not yet out in the UK - not bad, but oddly uncertain in tone. (Talking of uncertain, I thoroughly enjoyed the performance of Vera Farmiga, and thought what a funny coincidence it was that we'd seen her a couple of days ago in Source Code, until the end credits when I discovered that Vera was in fact Cate Blanchett.I'm not good with faces.)
Then back to the hotel, taking one picture, of the Empire State, which therefore has to be today's shot. Some admin printing tomorrow's boarding cards and choosing a restaurant for our last holiday meal tonight (Kim may or may not make an appearance, which adds to the excitement) and this blog - probably penultimate, because I'll try to write something conclusilatory tomorrow.
Hmm, very "woke up, caught bus to school," this entry. Sorry about that.
