Had breakfast in the cafe. Could not face the all you can eat breakfast so went for pancake, fruit and bacon which was still a lot. Weather looks promising, blue sky and sun. We were travelling to crater lake which is about 15 miles away. So a short ride. The entry is $15 as it us a national park. There was a straight road from the enterence and about three miles to get to the rim. Crater lake us a caledra which is a mountain that erupted and callapsed forming a deep crater which filled up woth water. As no streams/ rivers feed into it it is very clear and unpolluted. It is the most vivid blue ever. It is also the deepest lake in the usa and us 5,500 feet above sea level.the rim where you drive along is 8,000 feet above sea level. The altitude did not affect me.
The scenery around was mountai was vast and awesome. Made our way along the stunning overlooks. Different views each time. The drive along was narrow roads with awesome views of the mountains. In the distance from middle of October part of crater lake is completely snowbound and closed off.
Just off the track was bidea falls. A littke bit like becky falls. Along the stops Saw little cute chipmunks but no eagles. So timy and fast. Decided to take a 7 mile detour to see the pinnacles. These are tall chimney like structures which are made from ash and have eroded after thousands of years. They were massive in the valley and up the wall of the balley towering over the sixty foot trees. Very sci fi. Walked to the end it was very peaceful in the hot sun.
Stopped at rim village. This had the usual gift shops. Had sone lunch very poor food. Glad we did not get accommodation there.
More stunning views from the village. The dsy is hotting up.
Left crater lake about 3.30. The experience and views will stay woth me.
Bavk to diamond lake. Did the washing and sat by the lake reading. Decided to have a pizza from the place a few miles away thst serves the rv people. Had more umpqua . Ate it in our room. Watched television and sleep.
