- Up at 8am, A lot of people parasailing in the ocean when we looked out.
- We've not booked Breakfast here so we could try local options, so went for a walk to see what we could find, also needed to get Ethan a new rashy top. Ended up finding rashes & getting some fruit for breakfast (cost about $4 for probably 4 large mangos that were skinned and cut, some pineapple, and what I later found out was Rose Apple).
- It is interesting to walk around, somewhat like Bali, but a bit "dodgier"… Found that the pedestrian crossings (when they work) give a countdown timer till you can go, but it turns out that despite the traffic getting a red light, they also keep going!
- Then off to Ramayana Water Park. Had been told by reception that Bolt is more common here than Grab app. This was a more frustrating experience as it would charge then error (was refunded) multiple times. Once we got a ride, literally as we walked up to the driver's car (it took us 30 seconds), they cancelled - they must have seen us and decided not to proceed for some reason… So I had to try again; this time, I asked for a taxi, which cost more; however, I just got another random car… but they did drive us there.
- Bit concerned when going in as a lot of school groups, but it wasn't an issue once in & clearly the park gets a lot busier as there were a lot of empty spaces (like entire pool areas with lifeguards that were almost never used). It is interesting that there are a lot more lifeguards here than in Singapore (even the pools and slides at the hotel have a lot of lifeguards). They were more organised here than in Singapore in that they weighed you on entry and marked your wristband.
- We had a lot of fun on the slides; queues were generally very short (so long as we avoided the groups). Similar slides (some identical) to Bali, but not quite the same "polish" overall very good - they had the same loop drop-slide which I was able to do (Ethan is too light). Later in the day, after the school groups left, it almost felt like we had the place to ourselves. There were no cues on anything, and most of the time, we were the only ones on the tower many times. So we got a lot of slides in! One of the slides goes through another slide! It's hard to explain, but it looks impressive - also, with the jungle growing over many structures and some slides, it's quite something.
- The lifeguards were not an enthused as Bali (but better than Singapore), but impressively at one point we saw a child who was too light to go down a side alone, so as it was quiet one of the lifeguards took him. Also, when someone was stuck/distressed, they were incredibly responsive (would just dive straight into the slide - saw this twice, although the second time, not sure what the reason was).
- We had 2 light meal breaks. Food was a reasonable price, given they had a captive audience, and there were a lot of options (many dining places). It would be possible to get a reasonable meal, drink and ice cream for ~$15 AUD per person.
- After making the most of our time, we caught a taxi back to the accommodation (it costs a lot more than coming down as the waterpark is out of town, and closes during peak hour, and there is a captive market). That said, it ended up only coming to $20 for a 40 min drive back. I was a bit worried at one stage as we just got a local driver rather than booking online (due to demand/location, there were none on the app) and he started pulling over at a temple - but turned out he saw I was trying to take s picture and was stopping & opened my window to help.
- Back at the hotel, we planned the new few days out (looking to possibly do both theme parks in Bangkok if we're up to it).
- Walked down the road to the markets. This was quite interesting and unique. Walking there, we looked into what all the utes with bench seats on the back are (there are heaps of these, like a constant stream). It turns out they are something called a Songthaew, and they seem to be an impromptu form of public transport. A jump-on/off service.
- The markets were great (with a plane feature over the top). There was lots of interesting food (like alligator!). We tried the juices, some meat, and some desert things (see pics). There was plenty of seating, live music and the atmosphere was great. The main challenge was crossing the road! (which wasn't too bad with so many people around).
- Now (11 pm) there is a lot of rain which despite being forecast during the day, never eventuated until now.
- We're off to Columbia Pictures Aquaverse tomorrow for something different…
