Pasotti Family
- Both woke before the alarm (which was set for 7:45am).
- I got ready, FaceTimed the girls briefly, then went for breakfast (included with the hotel).
- Breakfast spread was amazing. On floor 81, with dining around the edge of the floor & massive selection of buffet options the entire way around. Spoilt for choice. Found a type of Bruschetta that was amazing. Breifly toured the public observation floor.
- Then, we took a taxi to Siam's Amazing park. It was interesting to see the vastly contrasting areas in the city on the drive, with new high-rises against shantytowns.
- Out tickets gave us access to both the assessment park and waterpark (and lunch).
- It was an unusual drill; almost no one was at the park. We were the first in, first on the rollercoaster, and probably many of the rides. However, this time, while it did get busier, it never got anywhere near busy - i.e. not only were there no queues, but rides were hardly operating at all. The poor operators were all on phones, some probably only running a couple of times an hour (if that). The exception was a log ride (that goes into a mountain with a tiger and lion's head) that was busy most of the day (had to wait around 15-20 min at peak time - mainly due to it only moving a very small number if people).
- The rollercoaster was rough but thrilling, with a lot of being tossed in all directions, especially compared to the Universal Studios ones). We ended up going on it 4 times I think.
- The Park (Siam Amazing Park) is very run down. All the rides have seats out of service (at least 3 of the rollercoaster seats have no harness). The polish was very missing with the place in need of serious investment. The statues etc..… are falling apart/over. Things have holes and are torn etc.… everywhere. Dream World, where we went yesterday, is in much better condition. Siam park is huge, but to a scale they clearly can't maintain with the demand.
- The rides that were open, were largely spinning rides (with the exception of the roller coaster and splash log ride). 3 rides were under maintenance, including two keen on doing. We did all the Xtream world rides that were open but by the end of the day we had both had enough of being spun around!
- Around midday, we headed into the Water Park side. This is quite something… The main slides are a huge concrete monolith with the "buffer" between the slide and your body being a layer of paint! It was very fast but the very poor design, i.e. you have to hold your head with your arm poking up out the slide to buffer your head from bashing into the concrete walls of the very narrow slide.
- Had to be 150cm to do the long concrete slides, I didn't think Ethan was quite there but he decided to try his luck, the lifeguard had him stand against the ruler & decide he was fine! so he got to do the big one! Another lifeguard later measured him and also concluded he was 150 cm (the fact their Ruler is stuck to a wall that bends probably helped).
- While painful, we had fun on these. The whole setup was exceedingly odd, like the Pool you land in is very shallow where you land (around 40cm) so I always crashed into the bottom of the pool, and then gets deeper at the exit (probably 80 - 90 cm), with no stairs… The walk from the end of the slide to the entry requires manoeuvring between trees and walking along the edge of a small pool (which looked stagnant… but was apparently ok for kids to use - not that we saw anyone ever dare) - though we were doing it wrong a fist, but noted everyone did the same and a trail of water confirmed as much.
- We then found the world's Largest Wave pool as certified by the Guinness Book of Records. It's certainly big, as for wavy… this was the least wavy wave pool I have ever seen by a long way. i.e. the pool is visually flat; however, in the shallow, small (tiny) waves are washing up! The bottom of the pool was slimy with slimy stuff everywhere, there was the odd strip where they had tried to clean it, with limited success. Rained on us when we were in the pool, but started and stopped while in the pool & that was pretty much all the rain we got.
- While this all sounds negative, we had a lot of fun, in-part seeing how bad things could be… It also adds another level of thrill to the whole experience when parts are falling off thigs and there is tape/missing harnesses etc…! (the safety process was still good & backup system like belts did work).
- Overall, it seems they have gone very big but have not been able to keep up with the upkeep of such a huge park.
- We had lunch included, being another (like yesterday) "international buffet" (i.e. Indian). Not as much range as yesterday, but it was fine. Fruit for dessert included guava & paw - which I really liked better than I've had prior - Ethan wasn't keen at all.
- After lunch, went back to the water park.
- At one stage, I Had to intervene when a Dad wouldn't accept his daughter, who was not tall enough to go on the large slide (she clearly wasn't). He would not accept it and argue with the poor petite Thai lifeguard for ages (him in English with the lifeguard in Thai, not that it was difficult to make out what both were saying)! I ended up having to intervene and tell him it was our turn & the lifeguard was protecting his daughter, and he needed to let us go as wasting our time. Interestingly, when I told him we would go, he was more concerned about him not going next (despite the lack of anyone else around and the slide taking a few seconds!). So he told his daughter to walk down & he finally went down the slide. The lifeguard took it well, even calling out to him to hold his hands correctly to protect his head which he wasn't doing… I may have been a little less tactful in suggesting that bashing his head on the way down may not have been such a bad thing (at least he might appreciate the fact that the lifeguard was trying to protect his daughter!).
- We iterated between the water park and rides a few times before finishing up around 5:15 pm, finishing with a run on the rollercoaster.
- I ordered Grab to get back to the hotel (which took about 50 min in peak hour traffic). Despite getting a registered Taxi, only 1 seatbelt worked!
- At the hotel, looked around the amenities we have access to (including pool, and mini golf) as thinking of doing mini golf tomorrow before we leave.
- Then, I headed out into the hustle and bustle of Bangkok to find some dinner. It was busier again than last night, and there were food options near the hotel this time. We made our way to Platinum Mall markets and also got things from street food vendors on the way there. once we got there (there was a massive line of street food vendors). We got Fruit Smoothies, some Spring role things, Roti with Banana (which was amazing and we got a second helping later), Thai Sausage (it wasn't Spicy, I didn't mind but Ethan didn't like) and potato spiral sticks.
- The crowds and chaos is quite something for a Monday night! Was good to see/experience the Chaos of a very busy city, with cars driving through markets and the disarray of roads and stalls/roads all intermingling.
- Back to the hotel where we played rage and watching lighting over the city (it has been going for hours)!
- Travelling much of tomorrow to Phuket (from 10 am - 5:30 pm - Thai time).
