- Driving to Te Anau
Quickly packed &headed off to Te Anau- which apparently takes 2:45 minutes according to the maps. While it did take longer than it would initially appear due to the VERY windy roads, it only took 2 hours. We passed a LOT of sheep on the way, some paddocks have heaps, to the point where it looks like a block of sheep almost. Drive was nice, quite drizzly, but apparently this part of the country experiences rain 200 days of the year - and once we arrived in Te Anau it all cleared up so we're able to go for a walk along the lake, with the sun out and very nice weather.
Did some shopping for dinner & had lunch in town (gourmet pizza). Went to check in at accommodation, met a very friendly cat - which had a mane (sort of). Unfortunately had the wrong accommodation, but was only a few hundred meters from the correct place. Bit confusing as the place we booked into was bought out a few days after we booked in and therefore chanced name (merged with the motel next door to it).
The motel is fantastic and modern, big rooms, fully equipped kitchen, spa, 4 built in heaters!!! Is well equipped and very comfortable. Early night tonight as we head out first thing to Milford Sound in the morning.
