- Ethan's first day overseas!
- We Left home at 4 am! Grandad kindly picked us up & dropped us at the airport.
- Checked in bags, and sorted out phones for international and some cash (IDR) & had coffee/hot chocolate in the terminal.
The flight went well; it only took 3.5 hours, leaving around 7:05 am and landing at 10:35 am. - The temperature and humidity, as expected, were noticeable - although not too bad overall.
- We found the airport fascinating, with many impressive cultural symbols and intricate designs. However, it is also a very "hodgepodge" and poorly maintained.
- Found our pre-booked driver among the masses waiting.
The drive was interesting… not quite as busy as expected, but certainly chaotic. - Checked into the hotel, but the room wasn't ready (as expected), so we left our luggage and walked along the beach with the masses of stalls offering coconuts, beer, surfing lessons, Ice creams, sunnies, massage, etc..,.
- We went to the Beach Walk mall, wandered around, and looked at the Candylicious / Hershey's shop, but we were both Hungry, so we ended up going to the US - Johny Rockets as somewhere quick and likely "safe".
- We were amazed at the prices—four drinks (two sodas and two beers), two large onion rings, two sliders, chips, and salad with fried chicken came to $34! I had expected it to be more at a Western place in a Western mall.
- Wandered around the shops more and found some interesting places, including roof gardens.
We were shocked to also find characters dressed in large costumes! In the full heat dancing! - We ended up walking back along the beach, sitting at one of the areas set up with umbrellas, having a coconut, and trying Hershey's chocolate (nice, but nothing special…).
Watched the surfing, and the kites (there are some very high kites, going behind the clouds!). - Walked back to the hotel at 3 pm and were able to check into our room; it is amazing! Right on the pool (one of 3 pools).
Booked in some activities for the coming days at reception. We have booked water sports tomorrow: Fly Fishing, doughnut tubing, and Parasailing & lunch and free foot massage, apparently… On Monday, we will go to Water Bom Park, and on Tuesday, we've booked in for Quad bike and white water rafting in Ubud. - Swam and played in the pool next to our room. The water and weather were amazing and very pleasant. We got drinks from the poolside bar and watched the squirrels.
- Went past reception to pay for tomorrow's activities, then went to the beachside pool and had dinner, and Ethan played in the pool alongside the beach. Prices were amazing again, and the incredible setting was great. There were regular flocks of little birds flying overhead.
- After dinner, we went for a walk along the beach & got a bit wet (I went across to the sand "islands" and walked there, but getting back ended up going a bit deeper than getting out!).
While on the beach there were some fireworks. - Back to hotel, called the girls and now writing this watching more fireworks from our room!
- Plan to get up at 7 am tomorrow for Breakfast at the hotel before leaving at 9:00 am for the water sports.
