Lovewells vs The World
The drive to Invercargill was not that exciting because it was mostly farmland, but we went through lots of little towns and saw lots of animals. In Invercargill we visited the transport museum. We did a scavenger hunt where we had to find number plates on the old vehicles. It was really cool and set out like a series of roads. It even had an old town and a special Lego room wher we all made up inventions.
We also visited the library in invercargill because, shock horror we had run out of books! Luckily the public library was having a sale, so we filled a box for $5. Phew, stuff to read again!
Next we headed to Bluff to go to the southernmost town in the South Island, and we saw the famous signpost. The coast was so wild and we were worried we would lose Nici or Baby jag into the southern ocean! We got fish and chips, and ate them at the sign for Bluff, looking out to sea.
Then it was on to the Catlins. This part of the drive was much more interesting because we saw the Beach and drove along the coast. We saw a picture postcard view of the first bay In the Catlins. We explored a waterfall Purakaunui Falls. That was really pretty and worth the walk. It looked like a wedding cake with three tiers. Then we stopped in the tiny town of Owaka which had an awesome playground. We walked along the township and found this crazy place called teapotland, which was a bizarre garden full of teapots. Odd.
Our cottage at New Haven Holiday park was really cool. It was right on the beach and we could walk over to see the sea lions. We watched them for ages and also explored the sand dunes around Surat Bay. There was a wreck their and that is how it got its name. The bay is sheltered, but there is a big sand bar and then the water is wild!
Gemma and mum played chess with a supersize do chess set outside,it was an epic battle until we realised the board had been set up wrongly In the first place! We jumped on the tramp and explored the camp until dark, then we ate and fell into bed again, the sea air makes you tired!
