It's 11:10 pm and we've been in Edinburgh about 2 hours. to update on the past couple days:
Thursday we were going to see the bog man in the Dublin museum, but neither of us were up for it so we walked to the ferry station early. We probably should have taken a bus. It was pretty much a 3-hour walk past Dublin's chemical plants and gas storage areas. I didn't enjoy it much. On the plus side, we were just in time for an early ferry to Wales, so that worked out. The ferry ride was 2 hours. Kayla hates boat rides, but I liked it. It was a pretty big boat and had onboard stores and tables. It landed at Holyhead in Wales. It was supposed to just be a place to get on the train, but we liked the look of Holyhead so we decided to spend the night there. We walked and found a Travelodge hotel.
Friday we explored Holyhead a little. There is a nice old church there, St. Cybis or something like that. It's got a lot of nice stonework and is built on the site of a Roman fort. We picked up a pamplet of area attractions and I really liked the picture of Conwy Castle, so we decided to somehow get to Conwy. We bought 2 train tickets and were there around 6:00pm. We first saw a church with some outdoor stations of the cross on a big stone wall. Then we realized the stone wall wrapped around the whole city, part of its medieval protections. There were stairs up to the top and we walked around on it for a while. The view was really good. We found a fish and chips place. I got fish cakes, mushed up peas, and chips, and Kayla got a potato and meat pie and chips with gravy on them. Then we had someone direct us to a pub, where we rented an upstairs room for the night. It was a very old building with a view of the river, city walls and castle.
Today we had our English breakfast that I already commented on. Then we went to Conwy castle. We spent about 2 1/2 hours there. It must be about the best ruined castle there is. We climbed all over the walls, courtyard, and up the towers. We took lots of great pictures of it too, and for some there was even a rainbow in the background. Kayla, I think, was most interested by the pigeons that live there. We had maybe a 4 1/2 hour train ride today to Edinburgh. It was dark when we got here. We'll see more tomorrow.
Happy Birthday, Dad!

Jean B Wow...that all sounded really neat, I got tired just reading it..but the fish and chips should revive you :) Don't drink any green beer, no matter how thirsty you become. Continue having a wonderful time!!!!!
Bob Hi you two. Those English breakfasts will stick with you the whole day. I once told Kathy, that those Scots could be speaking Russian for all I know, I had a real hard time understanding them. Hope you aren't having the same problem. :) Take care and I'm looking forward to your next adventure.
JeanB Forgot to mention I love looking at all the photos of you both and all the things you are looking at..I like to do the slideshows..thanks for sharing with us.
JeanB GREAT...photos.....TWIX???? All that way just to eat TWIX???? I know you just wanted to read the label :)
Kayla I had a hard time with understanding English, too! Its pretty funny haha. I don't think I've ever seen a white twix! We went to a shop because they had these sausage roll thingies in the window which looked real good so we got those and just found the twix on their candy shelf haha. That was an added bonus. I guess we forgot the picture of the roll :P. I like reading the labels, sometimes I can pick out what something may mean haha!
