Italy(I'll give quick things and Brian can give more if he'd like :)):
We met a really nice couple on our overnight train who were from close to Naples along the coast. (Not from Naples or they would have been mean.) We arrived in Rome and was bombarded with umbrella salesmen because it was raining. Walked around and saw the Trevi fountain, Spanish Steps and some other stuff until we got to our place. It was really close to the Vatican and really cheap when it came to accomadations(including hostels!) BUT he didn't have room at that place so he moved us pretty far away. A two sec walk to the metro turned into 15 minutes where placed us. Reduced our rate but then took some back anyway... never trust Romans! Still okay though. Quiet area.
Hmm, I'm not sure how this order goes but also while there, we saw the Colosseum and the ancient Rome area, lots of pilars, Saint Maria Maggiore, the sacred area(which is my favorite area!), lots of plazzas and lots of fountains! I can't believe how crowded the Trevi Fountain is... it is beautiful and nicely made but theres other stuff in Rome too... We went to it a couple times though since we were in the area haha. We saw a column like Trajans column which we thought was made better and had better pictures than Trajans Column. I didn't see any cats by the ruins except for the scared area which used to be four temples. The little place is completely occupied by cats and there is a cat sanctuary right next to it which helps them and feeds them. I got to pet some, they really want love!
We went to Naples on a Sunday... nice train ride with beautiful scenery. We met another guy who lived in Formia(I believe) and he warned us about Naples too. We should've gotten off where he lived because there was a beautiful coast surrounded by mountains and it was warm. But we wanted to see Pompeii so we kept going. I should've read more about it first but didn't and realized that Pompeii ruins are closed Sunday and pretty much no trains go there then.... that sucked. We still got to see Mt. Vesuvius. Pretty big! And people still build houses on it! We went to a McDonalds to try there internet but you pretty much have to be Italian or have a working phone.. When we left, Brian left a bag there which had my tolietries and water bottle which I couldn't fit into my bag at the moment... and our food and some soveniours. Fifteen mintues later when I realized he didn't have it, we went back and couldn't find it... the "security gaurd" said he never saw it. If a McDonalds has a security gaurd you probably shouldn't go. At least we didn't lose anything more valuable or important. I will NEVER go to Naples again though. We were only around the place for 15 minutes because once the back was lost we went back to the train station. One of the streets we walked down was filled with poop. I'm not even kidding, it smelled horrible. Either someone didn't clean up after their five dogs or a couple homeless people thought it would be funny... so gross... But we were trying to get to this "park" they had which turned out to be a basketball court and three shrubs.
Took a night train to Milan. Lots of homeless people and beggars. Rome also had a TON of beggars and salespeople. I really want Italy to be my favorite country because its so beautiful but the people are generally horrible. They try to rip you off and con you... in most the cities. In Rome, at a plazza, Brian was trying to take a picture of me in front of a pilar. I was holding my bag like I usually do in pictures for some reason, and a guy came up who was selling roses and kept bothering us to take it.... come on, we're trying to take a picture... so we won't talk to him and he places three of them on me! I didn't take them, he just did that.... I think the picture shows it... then he made like a little circle away from us and comes back and wants money! I didn't want the crappy flowers to begin with and told him that. He wouldn't take the flowers back either! I give him a euro hoping he'll leave us alone and take back his stupid flowers but he said not enough... and went on and on about his family... okay, move. Rome is expensive. So I give the flowers to Brian since he doesn't have any money and started to walk fastly away. Ugh, and there are other reasons why Romans sucks... but I don't want this to be a rant...Little places are great and the people are great but being in the cities made me really bitter... Anyway... we went to the Duomo church in Milan and that was gorgeous! Everything about it was and it had really nice stained glass windows. We didn't stay long in Milan because pretty much everything is closed on Monday there haha.
Then we went to Verona to try and get away from the big cities. This place is wonderful! Has some Roman ruins... we saw an arch, an arena, a couple steps, and some other misc. stuff. We took a historic church "tour" where we got a card and visited four churches for the price of two. Very pretty churches and they were all unique and had some awesome frescos. We walked along a river which had some amazing views and cute pigeons. There was a castle they turned into an art gallery. We only saw a little bit of that. We had dinner at a place called Istanbul Kabob or something and that was one of the best dinners we've had, I think haha.
Venice was next but we got on the wrong train because the one before it was late... trains were usually about 30 minutes early... so we ended up going to Bologna but just got on a train to Venice from there. We got there when the sun was setting and it is really beautiful. We didn't go too far from the station because we didn't have a map nad it is a serious maze. The canals are awesome and wide. Much bigger than Amsterdam's canals. We also thought it was a very romantic city and not too badly priced. Still expensive compared to other places haha. Lots of glass shops and Brian really liked them. We got a night train to Munich since we couldn't really find a place to stay and Switzerland was too close.
Back in Munich we were finally able to get internet without costing a lot(free) or giving up our first born. We planned out how to get to Switerland and figured we'll take the train during the day and hope its scenic... It wasn't really, I think Brian really enjoyed it though. It was so nice being back in a friendly country though. A man spilled some coffee on Brian accidently on the train and he felt really bad and kept apologizing and said Brain could clean his clothes and send him the bill. That made me feel bad haha! He spilled it on himself too but was more worried about Brian. If it were Rome, he probably would have been made to pay for the spilt coffee....
We get to Zurich and not really any mountain... Kind of dissapointed because I thought as soon as you get into Switzerland there are huge peakes everywhere haha. But we are staying in Engelberg which we passed through Lucern to get to and the mountains sure pick up! We have an amazing view and its cold! We plan on going to Bern today so hopefully they have hats!
