An early start this morning for my bungy jump courtesy of AJ Hackett. I did my first one a few months ago in Auckland which was terrifying enough at 40m, but today I was taking on the highest one in New Zealand and the 5th highest in the world at 134m, the Nevis Bungy.
After checking in at the Bungy Shop on Shotover Street, I had an anxious half an hour before AJ (not Hackett, just a convenient coincidence) our bus driver rallied us all up. Half hour an hour later we arrived at the bungy centre. We were fitted into our harnesses and lead through to a viewing platform. I was still just about keeping it together at this point, it wasn't until I got to the bungy platform where my calm exterior melted rapidly! The whole way up here I was telling myself it was only 3 times higher than the Auckland one and I'd be fine, but the glass panel in the bottom of the bungy platform proved too much and I could feel my heart rate increasing.
Being the only girl in this group and therefore weighing the least was great for my ego, but not so much for my nerves as I was the last to jump. My feet firmly strapped in the leg cuffs, I redid my runners up extra tight, just in case!
Jumper after jumper, I just wanted to go next partly out of excitement, but also to get it over with. With only two jumpers to go I got my first doubtful thought in my mind after he didn't want to jump after three attempts.
Finally in the chair having my last safety briefing about jumping head first and pulling the cord once you have bounced a few times to release your feet, the jumper before me was being pulled in…upside down!! This really started to get my nervous and breathing deeply but I didn't have time to think about it before I was being escorted to the edge of the bungy platform. Thankfully being my second jump I knew I had to get my toes over the edge and was concentrating on them rather than the MASSIVE drop below me. One quick grin to the camera above knowing my mum just loves seeing pictures of me about to bungy! 3,2,1… F***********!!!
The worst part is the very first second after jumping then you realise you're fine and its time to enjoy the freefall until the bungy takes effect and you bounce back up.
For a good 40 minutes or so after I was safely back in the bungy pod, I was still shaking from the adrenalin but this was more than worth it. The photo pack includes postcards to send home which is fantastic idea just to prove to everyone back home that you've actually done it.
Massive thanks to Miriam and the rest of the bungy crew at AJ Hackett for sorting this for me…it was fantastic!

This evening I indulged in a well earned infamous Ferg Burger found on Shotover Street. I was told to get one of these by several friends who have visited Queenstown and now I know why! For $14-$17 you get a feast which is pretty hard to finish and took me nearly an hour to clear my plate. The Big Al is the challenge for anyone feeling especially hungry with double of everything you could possibly fit into a burger.
