Yee ha!
Today we drove to Fort Worth (over an hour, slow traffic) to the Stockyards, a slice of the cowboy side of Texas.
Every day at 11:30am and 4:00pm they drive cattle down the main street - which we missed by 10 minutes this morning. We did however see cowboys, rode in a horse drawn carriage, the kids has pony rides and fed goats in a petting zoo and were given multiple Deputy badges by the friendly Visitor Centre staff.
We had lunch in a lovely restaurant which was fully decked out in Wild West decor. I had a tortilla soup which was delicious. Must see if I can make it in the Thermomix!
Afterwards, we did some shopping and the girls got matching cowgirl boots and postcards, etc. We did a little more looking around then headed for Dallas via Pro Bass.
Pro Bass? It is this enormous camping, boating, fishing and hunting megastore in the USA. It was surprisingly entertaining as the store has multiple animal displays - stuffed and mounted animals - throughout the place. Paul couldn't resist purchasing some jeans and shirts. I was tempted - the camouflage negligee sends a mixed message I feel ( notice me but don't notice me) but good taste prevailed and I left the shopping to Paul.
The drive was a good dry run for our trip to the airport tomorrow morning as we'll have an early start to catch our flight to Orlando.
