Last night we went to a bar called Level One, as recommended by our Segway guide... We had food and a few drinks (me just one - boring sod). Buffalo wings wooooooo. But I was shattered, and s*** company so we didn't last long.
Day two in DC. We decided to spend the day exploring some more, and using the good old Big Red Bus! We headed to Georgetown and went on the hunt for the famous steps where the Exorcist was filmed... Await the photo from Kerry lol.
After her reenactment was complete, we went on a river boat down the river (doh). Was nice to kick back and relax for an hour (and rest our tootsies and cool down - it was boiling). Once we got off we jumped back on another tour bus and went over to the Pentagon. Huge building - 25,000 people work there - incredible. I was starting to burn, sweat, and shine the top of the Chrysler building by this point but happy to have been topping up the tan. After the Pentagon we did a full loop on the tour bus, to ensure we'd seen everything and got back to the start.
We planned to go to the National Archives but the queue was massive so we fed me (a yummy street food burger with mustard ketchup and pickle), and started a stroll down the mall towards the Washington Monument and some other memorial which I've forgotten the name of. Anyway this other memorial was awesome, as it was a fountain. So we sat cooling ourselves off in the fountain for an hour. Once we were well rested we walked down past the reflective pool toward the Lincoln Monument. We checked it out and went to the Vietnam and Korean memorials too. Following that we did one last loop on one of the tour buses before hopping off at the White House.
At this point it was 6.30pm and we'd been out since 8.30am. Pretty tired. Anyway, after seeing the White House we'd planned to get food and then go watch the sun set over the monuments. Well that went down the drain literally, as the heavens opened... and we got soooooaked!!!! So soaked we ditched our plans, hailed a cab and have come back to the hotel. We're gonna pack and order take out. as we're up at 3.30am for our 6am flight to Toronto!
