So if I slept two hours last night, that's it! The lovely old jet lag. Luckily, we had to be up at 5am to get the Greyhound bus to Washington DC. The bus was amazing - well as amazing as buses can be. It was a 4.5 hour ride. As soon as we got out of Union Station and were on the way to the hotel, I knew I liked this city.
It's wide streets, clean footpaths, everything was so clean, fresh and airy. Complete contrast to NY! And I can now see why this is the capital. It's beautiful! We checked into our lovely hotel, freshened up and head down on the bus to Georgetown. After Georgetown we went to our Segway ride. We were both pretty scared, both being clumsy we were concerned about bodily damage lol. After a quick lesson we thought we knew what we were doing and we left the store on the tour. The tour was three hours long and took us to the Whitehouse, Capitol Hill, Lincoln Memorial and the Vietnam Memorial. And some other bits but I didn't listen to it all.
I loved the Segway, apart from the achy feet. It was awesome! The best bit had to be Kerry flying past me. On a Segway if you hit 10mph the handles push back on you and you have to push down on your heels to slow down. Yet Kerry's feet were hanging over the front so no matter what she did she kept going faster and faster... and by this point screaming. The guide grabbed her and managed to slow her down before hurtling into the road. By this point I had slowed right down as I was wetting myself crying!
I do love this city already, my favourite spot had to be the top of the reflecting pool. Oh and the fact that the sun had been out all day really topped it off. We both baked - having not realised it was so sunny. And we roasted, it's been in the early 30s. Now we're back having a shower before going out for food and a few drinks.
I'm absolutely dead beat so need to get off my bed and get ready before I drop off.
