Following the awful storm in Washington last night, we set our alarm for 3am to catch our 6am flight to Toronto. Little did we know that when we'd wake we'd get a text saying our flight was cancelled.
After much running up and down to reception, arguments with the "English" call centre staff at Air Canada and an unhelpful reception we got a cab to the airport, in the hope that they'd transfer us. When we got to the airport - all flights were full and we'd been placed on a noon flight the following day.
This did not work for us - we'd have missed Niagara and I'd have missed my walk. Neither were Air Canada liable, for this 'act of God'. We encountered the biggest dimwit out - Jean Marc - at the check in. Luckily I'd started bawling and was sat next to an older couple who were in the same situation, and I'd heard them say they were on standby. By this point we'd worked out we'd have to get a 15 hour overnight bus to get to Toronto by tomorrow morning. As I was an emotional wreck Kerry went over and laid into them and we were put on standby for the 9am flight after being told there was very little chance.
Three hours later we were trying to get put on standby for Ottawa too and figured we could work backwards. As it happened the helpful guy on the desk got us two tickets for the 9am. We could have hugged him. So we hurried through security with 20 mins to spare and got our flight!
We landed in Toronto around 11am and got a cab to our hotel. Kerry did a flying trick again - cab driver slammed on his brakes and she shot forward (in slo mo it felt like) and ended up practically on the floor of the car.
After we'd arrived at the hotel, and checked in (and Kerry had told the receptionists she was doing drugs in the room, and had locked the key to her suitcase lock in her suitcase, we decided to book the hop on hop off bus to help us get our bearings. So we did most of that loop, then jumped off at the harbour. The city part of Toronto is like any other city, but the harbour ('front' as Nan would call it), is beautiful! Toronto has an amazing skyline!
We hopped on a boat that took us around Toronto Islands for an hour and then went to get dinner. My first pizza in 7 months and I couldn't even finish it!! Lame!
By which time it was now 6pm and I was only an hour away from my CN Tower Edge Walk (YouTube it!). I got suited, booted, and harnessed. All jewellery had to come off, hair grips out, breathalyser - the works! I'm petrified of heights so don't ask me why I chose to do this! The two guys I did the walk with were construction walkers so I had to suck it up and get on with it... I stepped out onto the edge (1200m high) and I won't lie and say I wasn't a bit scared - because I was. But the adrenaline was amazing. We leaned over forwards, backwards as well as walking around the entire pod. Still can't quite believe it. I have a DVD recording and lots of photos as proof haha.
After that, we walked to a nice little lake front bar and chilled whilst the sunset. Now it's time for bed, as another big day tomorrow.
