We had a bit of trouble getting up this morning, we were still so tired and had a lovely nights sleep. We kept turning round to see each other still in bed and thinking - "if she's not getting up, yet, I'm not!" We eventually managed to drag ourselves, blurry-eyed, out of bed just after 8.30am (so still quite early!), showered, changed and left the hostel (Fat Camels) about 9.45am and headed straight for the 'Stray' office. Here we confirmed our bus trip with the dripiest dude ever!
After what seemed like hours, we finally got things confirmed (itinerary, pick-up, etc) and left bound for the harbour front where we wondered through the colourful Ferry Building, up and down a few piers, past shops and harbour front cafe and restaurants and onward into the city centre, to the Sky Tower. We went up to 51st and 60th floors to get fab 360 bird's-eye city views and stare open-mouthed at the crazy people who decided to spend $40 to chuck themselves off the top of the tower! Once we got back to the ground, it was lunch time and our tummies were rumbling, so we found a lovely cafe and enjoyed a beef & caramelised onion chutney, for Laura, and beef and cheese pie, for Sarah. With our stomaches full we were ready to carry on round the city, next stop Aotea Square, which had it's weekend market on in full flow, the stores filling the square to the left of the quaint church. Then it was up to K'Road, one of the most popular roads in the city (probably more for it's seedy strip joints than anything, but we enjoyed wondering in and out the individual shops. We then wondered back down towards the centre of the city on Queens Street, past the market and straight into STA Travel, where we booked our Fiji Experience tour, as we wouldn't have time to do so at any other point within the next hetic 3 weeks.
The weather had started to get a wee bit miserable and had started to spit, but this didn't deter us from completing the last leg of our city sights. We walked up to Albert Park, on the top of a hill and enjoyed a short stroll, before heading back for a little down time and sorted out our bags before we headed down to the bar for our (tiny) free meal of fish and chips. We then decided to take a walk to Foodworks (past an 'old-man-looking-bird') to stock up on some healthy snacks for our trip tomorrow.
