SINGAPORE! We trekked through Singapore with our bags, dropped them at the hostel and left again just as the heavens opened...we got soaked! So what do 2 girls in the rain in Singapore do? Check out the shopping malls of course. After a little look at the clothes we couldn't afford to buy we got the bus to the Night Safari. It was so good! There were a few spot lights so you could see what you were looking at but otherwise it was dark. We wondered round the walking trails and embarrassingly screamed and ducked for cover when a flying squirrel jumped straight over our heads. Back at our 8 bed dorm, I decided to sit in the lounge to read for a bit, without our key, not realising that the other 7 in there would go to bed and lock the door. So I was locked out for a little while, but luckily, while comtemplating the most expensive night on a couch ever, another girl realised and opened the door. Not Laus, she was snoozing away!! We saw all of Singapore hopping on and off the sightseeing bus. One evening we went to a hawker centre for a dirt cheap dinner and then headed to Raffles to splash out on Singapore Slings! We felt we were right at home in Raffles in our nice creased dresses. We also went to Changi Museum where Lau's Grandad was during the war and got lots of info following the school groups.
And then on the Bali. Our first night we managed to find the dirtiest room ever, to then move right up in the world for the following 3 nights staying in the Ramada Hotel, curtesy of the parents. Thanks guys, it was amazing! We got straight inot our slippers and dressing gowns and devoured the complimentary fruit bowl. We tried to be discrete during the free buffet breakfast but I'm not sure 5th helpings go unnoticed. Hopefully they didn't spot the fruit and pastries we popped in our bags for lunch.Spent 3 days relaxing by the pool, eating free food and pampering ourselves with the lovely facilities. After that we headed to Ubud where we found a lovely guesthouse which would have been perfect if there hadn't been a mouse that liked to run around our porch. We visited the monkey sanctuary which was a bit scary to be honest. The monkeys were everywhere and jumping up on people. I panicked because I had 2 apples in my bag so I asked the man at the desk to look after them for me. He assured me I would be fine. Turns out monkeys aren't really into apples. We went over the Gili Islands from Balifor a few days which was beautiful. No traffic, no police! On the way we were getting onto a bus with our backpacks on when I heard a yelp from behind me. Turned round to find Laura's foot had gone through a drain and her leg was in there up to her knee!! Looked like she was kneeling down!! The ticket man had to help her out (pretty tricky when you have an 18kg bag on your back) but her flip flop was stuck in the mud. They managed to save it and got some water to clean her up. Unfortunately Laus was left with some grazes and bruises but if I'm honest, that image of her down a drain still makes us laugh so much!! We decided to hire bikes and cycle round the whole island which should only take an hour. What we didn't realise was that most of the track would be sand so really hard to cycle on. Laus found this out the hard way early on in the ride when she lost control in the soft sand and tumbled off the side! More bruises to add to the collection. Back in Bali we spent our last day at Waterbom Park, best water park ever! So many fab slides, we were pushing past the kids to each one. Sturdy swimwear was definitely needed.
We flew back to Singapore and waited 9hrs for our flight to Sydney. When we went to board there were engineers working on the plane. After 7 hours more waiting, some free food and a sleep on the floor we finally flew to Sydney!!
