Well I think the picture sums my stay here just right! That was literally one of the first things that we saw when we arrived at the hostel! We had another epic journey getting to Hanoi from Hue, and eventually when we arrived the Hanoi Backpackers Hostel was fully booked! As we had heard that it was the 'place to be' we stayed around from 6am - 10am until someone checked out, allowing us to check in. Luckily, the hostel was amazing, the best I've stayed in so far on my trip. 5 floors of dorms, bar areas, computers, cinema/tv area, outside area (where the sign was) and just generally a cool place to be!
Literally everyone who we have met in Vietnam so far was staying at the backpackers hostel at the same time as we were, so we had such a good laugh and was so sociable!
The dorms were interesting to say the least. I heard stories about what could happen in dorms, and can I just say that it is all true!! Obviously not me, as I'm a classy good girl, but It's hilarious what you see and and hear in the night! We met some funny people, too funny to mention on here though! One lad me and Vic met, Alan, we named 'V' as he took too many valuim tablets and slept solidly for about 2 days! i even forgot he was there and started sitting on his bed! Then we met Alan 2, dont even know his real name, but he reminded us of Alan from the Hangover! me and Vic were getting changed one night to go and have a shower and he minced in. We started laughing, as you do, then he perked up, "dont worry girls, Im gay"!! when he left the dorm we just burst out laughing! it was so funny at the time! Then there was Alan 3, who also looked like Alan from the hangover!! One night, him and another lad from our dorm asked me and Vic to go out and try this coconut rice wine, so we just said why not! It was vile!! There is a couple of pics of it, but it was absolutely discusting!! Had the faintist taste of coconut but mainly tasted like petrol! Obviously we all drank it all, seeing as we had paid for it! But then Alan 3 drank his too fast and literally fell asleep in the bar! So funny! We managed to wake him up and take him back to the dorm, but then some of the guys, and me and Vic started lying next to him in bed and doing funny positions as he was completely passed out!! There is also pics of this too!! And this was just 1 night!!
After me and Vic returned from Halong Bay, we stayed at the backpakers for a couple of nights more, but we didn't sleep! We were still drunk from Halong Bay, and we knew so many people at the hostel, that we just carried on drinking anc chatting for literally days on end! Hanoi backpackers was the best place ever to meet people and generally have a laugh!
On out first day there, me and Vic went on a free City tour organised by the hostel which was interesting. Hanoi isn't a massive place and nothing like the hussle and bussle of Saigon. There is still loads and moto's everywhere, but you just get used to them and dont think twice about walking straight out in front of them, as you know that they are going to stop for you!
Oh, and on mine and Vic's last night we were going to have a 'quiet night', but that never works out does it. We got persuaded to go out and there was a apple dunking game, which got you a free drink if you got an apple. Being drunk I thought it would be a good idea at the time! Never done this before, it took me a few goes, but i did it and got my free vodka redbull!! not that i needed it!
There's bound to be more funny stories than this, but I cant remember at this time!! Hanoi was basically party central, where we met up with loads of people we had met in Vietnam and generally got pissed for days on end!
