Hi everyone,
I do apologise in advance for taking up your feed but I'm on a roll and atleast you will all have something to read through the day :-)
So today I have some marvelous news, guess what?? I SLEPT IN FOR THE FIRST TIME IN A WEEK!! I was over the moon like you would not believe! I think the trick to the trade is going to bed 2 to 3 hours later than normal to force my body to take the time to recover. I was so happy!!
So today way day two in Athens. I woke up at about 7.30am (I know amazing right?!?!?) I rolled myself out of bed, threw on some clothes and went down to the Resraurant in the hope to be amazed by some wonderful food! It indeed was a beautiful spread so I helped myself to a boiled egg with some sausage (the scrambed eggs looked really weird) on a piece of toast with some orange juice which was horrible as it did not make par to anything remotely close to what orange juice should taste like. I then found the yoghurt and a variety of freshly diced fruit. This fruit and yoghurt was by far my favorite part of breakfast thus far. It was absolute heaven!
After only managing to fit in only one serve of each I made my way upstairs to pack for the day. Today I also packed my other lenses to experiment with the different types of photos I could take. After packing I set of for Omonia Square to the nearest checkpoint for the hop on hop off bus tour. Thankfully I didn't have to walk so far which made me extreme happy because knowing that towards the end of the day my feet would get extremely sore.
I bought the 24 hour pass and with this tour you get a day a day free. The Athens hop on hop off tours offer two tours. One day I would do a loop of the city and the other a loop from the Acropolis out to Piraeus as I originally planned to relax and have a day by the beach.
The first stop I got off at was stop number two Melina Merkouri/Plaka. At the particular stop you can cross the road and had a look at Hadrians Arch which is known to be a monumental gateway resembling in some respects a Roman triumphal arch and The Temple of Olympian Zeus. Theses two pieces are quite breath taking. The detail to there pieces is just amzing. The buses arrived at every checkpoint of intervals of 30mins and after taking a few photos and had a walk around. But as I was making my way but to the bus stop I see the bus pull in and leave shortly after. You would think that after 3 hop on hop off tours I would have worked out the timetable system by now. Not one bit.
By the time I made it back to the bus stop there was a short wait of abhout 20 mins so I stopped off at the atm to get some money out and had a look at the souvenirs around Plaka to pass the time. I haven't really been buy to many souvenirs because the anti hoarder in me silently asks "Do you really need that Jess?". So I've only been purchsing the postcards for the professional photos on the front. They are quite amazing!
I jumped back on the next bus and then made my way to the Acropolis. From a distance the Acropolis is the most beautiful sight. After purchasing a entry ticket I went and bought myself a frozen lemonade. A very cold, refreshing well needed drink.
I made my way up the hill and the view was just amazing! Athens is a city surround by mountains in every direction and when I finally got to the top. The Acropolis is one of the most amazing pieces of history. There are a number of a ancient buildings such as Parthenon, the Propylaia, the Erechtheion and the Temple of Athena Nike to name a few buildings that make the Acropolis. I wished I booked a tour to see this place as a guide would have alot more knowledge as all I did was read the information stands in front of each building. Personally guides have their own unique way of telling the story and I tend to take alot more information in via listening instead of reading.
After spending quite some time taking photos and taking in the beautiful view, I made my way down the hill and found my way to Stoa of Attalos, the Temple of Hephaestus, Ancient Agora and the mueum of Ancient Agora. This was a very beautiful place just like the Acropolis. I also spent some time here taking many photos but it was getting to that point of the day where I just wanted to go back to the hotel and or try to find some linner (lunch & dinner)
The nearest exit was at the other side of the city, alot closer to my hotel the where Acropolis is situated. I found my way to what I thought was one of the bus stops at Monastiraki Square and waited about 25mins for the next bus to arrive. i could see the bus coming, then passed me and continued on without me. I must have had the wrong stop. I figured I would walk back to the hotel as it was only a short 15min walk.
I made it back to the hotel and went straight for the cafe/restaurant to get something to eat. I chose the hamburger and when it eventually arrived. I was just expecting a normal burger cut in half but this burger used on whole burger roll as bottom half and another burger roll as the top half. It was HUGE. I had to eat each half seperately with a knife and fork.
After finishing my massive meal I went upstairs to my room, have a shower then decided to turn my bathroom into a laundry mat. The travelling clothes line i packed was amazing! It worked for well. So I washed all my clothes and attempted to log in to write a entry but No go today. It was starting to get quite frustrating because I am still so far behind. Maybe tomorrow might be a better day.
After hanging all my clothes I jumped into bed and dosed off quite quickly. Thank god.
Anyway I better get onto the next entry. Again I'm so sorry I'm so far behind!
Catch you all later!
Bye for now!
