Hi everyone,
I arrived in Amsterdam safe and sound :-) episode one of my series in the amazing race around Europe wasn't the best start to my adventure. There was a crying kid sitting rows up from me. Very unfortunate to the not so lucky person who scored that seat. Winner winner chicken dinner!! I was very fortunate that the seat next to me was empty so I could stretch out and I must say that this is the only time I've ever been greatful about being so short because I can fit in a aeroplane seat without a worry The poor man sitting in the seat opposite me was a GAINT!!! There was so many times during the flight where he was sitting in the fetal position. The poor poor man. I really felt for him and that was only an eight hour flight. Imagine an other 12 hour flight after that!!
We take off for Singapore and the air hostess hands out the earphones, I plugged them in hoping in to watch a movie but there was no sound. One of the hostesses reset the system for me but still nothing. So I got my tablet out and started to read a book. Canned that idea because it was a little boring to read and couldn't get into it. I knew that my usb had shows on it but I thought I put the adapter in my carry on luggage which I was to scared to get it down and look for it. I eventually did because I had been sitting there for two hours bored out of my brains. Needless to say the adapter was in my handbag all along... So I set the tablet up, next thing I know the shows wouldn't play and I think the tablet wiped them off the usb. WINNING! So I started reading the book again hoping to pass the time. Luckily a dozed off to sleep. Thank god!
The food was quite good for airline food suprisingly. No complaints there. Reading helped me pass the time. All I was hoping for was that the next 12 hour flight had something for me to watch or I would start hating life.
I arrive in Singapore safe and sound. Finally found my way to the next gate for my flight to Frankurt. I had to use 2 trams to get to the right terminal. Was surprisingly on time so had some free time to finally sort out how to use my international sim card for my phone.
We jet off for our journey to Frankfurt. I was a bit uneasy about this flight because I have never stayed sitting in one place for 12 & a 1/2 hours before and was scared the headphones weren't going to work. It felt like music to my ears that I could hear sound when I started watching Safe Haven and surprisingly fell asleep because I don't usually fall asleep on any type of transport. I even slept through dinner. It didn't really feel like a 12 hour flight. I'm glad I miss dinner because breakfast wasn't the best. I think they served some type of german sausage, possibly steamed spinach and some type of potatoe with the usual bread roll, yoghurt and orange juice. I wwasn't even game to eat the spanich and only ate one of the two sausages.
I arrived in Frankfurt at about 6ish and had to make me way the next gate terminal for my last flight to Amsterdam. It felt like I walked from one end of the airport to the other. It took me a good hour. I arrived at the gate number that was in my ticket at around about 7 for a boarding time of 7.30. Went to find some water and waited to board. Come 7.25 usually people are at the gate ready to let people on the plane and I was the only one sitting at the gate. I thought it was strange so I went to find a staff member to make sure the gate hadn't been changed. I'm sooooo lucky I went and checked because the gate got moved. So I raced off as fast as I could and just made it to the gate in time as boarding had started. Apart from that the flight went well. Only a short hour and ten minutes. When I arrived in Amsterdam I got a cab to the hotel. All the taxis over here are Mercedes Benz. I freaked out a bit because the driver was doing about 120kph down the highway and it's so so weird driving on the opposite side of the road. When I got to the hotel the driver told me there is a free shuttle bus that can take me to the airport. That will help for tomorrow morning to head off to Berlin.
I arrive at the hotel at about 10am and check in wasn't until 12pm. I had two options I could pay an extra 20 Euros and I could check in earlier or wait for two hours to check in. I went with option one as I desperately needed to freshen up.
After showering and Skyping Mum, Dad and Tucks I ventured out to the city. The best way to get there is to shuttle bus it to the airport and take a train to Amsterdam Central. Now we all know how when I am at traveling by train to anywhere new. I was freaking out just a little. The train system is so different to back home. I got to the airport fine and when I went to the information desk to ask where to purchase a ticket to Central she looked at me like an idoit, turned to her right and pointed to the huge counter with a big sign above it that said "Tickets and Information". Well I felt like a stupid idoit tourist didn't I??
I got on the RIGHT train and made it to the city, first attempt. So very proud. That's something to tell the grand kids! The aim of the afternoon was to visit the Anne Frank Mesuem. It toom me a good two hours to find it because my map was horrible. I even had someone as me for directions in some other language.. I was no help what so ever because I had no idea what the hell he was saying and I was lost myself.
When I eventually got there the bloody line was down the street, around the corner, down that street and starting to curve around the next corner. Apparently there is a zoo here which I knew noghing about otherwise I would have gone there instead! At least it was betted then sleep which is what I was thinkjng I would only do so atleast I got out and about to take some pictures. It's such a nice place, beautiful buildings and canals everywhere.
I arrived back to the hotel. My feet were killing my. Got into some clothes and layed down. I think I'm alittle jet lagged as I passed out missed dinner again and slept right through to 4am which is normal work wake up time.
Anyway I'd best be off. It's been a long 48 hours and I jet set off to Berlin later today. Pretty excited about that.
Talk to you all soon.
