Laura's Journal
Hey,
Got a bit more time on the internet today so can write a bit more. Its only 2 dollars an hour in this cafe which is less than a pound!
Tried to sleep in today to pass a bit of time n get over jet lagg, but it didn't happen, dogs barking outside my window and the cleaners started cleaning outside or splashing water around at 6.30 am!
The guesthouse is ok, very basic and sort of clean, but cold showers which is awful! My room is ok though and the bed comfy, I used the kitchen last night and met a guy from aus whos here for 3 months doing something for his phd, so he gave me some tips on supermarkets etc, and gave me some ketchup to have with my plain pasta, yum! I think il be stick thin by the time i leave here as its not good for vegis at all, gona be pasta, rice and fruit for the next 3 weeks!
Spending all my money on phonecards at mo to call home as not many people to talk to til jim n rob get here tonight, yay! Anyway on the up side,I walked to the hospital today, took about 25 mins, but I was taking my time looking at stuff along the way, including pigs and piglets, their so cute, and everywhere just wandering around! same with dogs, their everywhere but luckily not strays iv been told.
The people here are friendly, esp the children, they always say hi and bye and ask your name etc, v sweet. Some people can be a bit "off" to tourists but most are ok. I dont think iv ever looked so much like a tourist, rucksack, money bag and camera, hehe, v cool!
The hospital looks ahhem, interesting, a bit like your pic lise, and a bit like our old school building at bishop, v odd, i think its gonna be a bit of a shock going inside, but i'm looking forward to getting started now.
The national museum was opposite the hosp so I had a little wander, it was really interesting reading about the history and culture, mum n dad ud be proud!
My next mission today was to find some food as i've not eaten properly since the flight, so i went to a cute little cafe in town and had a bagel and tea- dan, my 1st cup of tea for few days, and it was nice! met a guy from london, who's been in nz for 6 months, he didn't have a book or anything so i told him things to do and where the supermarket is etc.
I'm hoping to look at a boat trip of some kind for sunday, either out ot the little islands or whales, I only have 3 weekends here so need to fit things in.
Anyway, can't think of much else until I do some more exploring.
Missing you all, thanks for messages and emails, much appreciated at mo!
