Laura's Journal
Hey all,
Almost at the end of my 1st week in Sydney, and how quick its gone! 5 weeks today i leave to come home.
I've really enjoyed my 1st week here, Christine and Dieter are really looking after me, and its such a nice city to live in. Its such a lovely lovely place with so much to explore and so many nice shops and resterants, a city I could get used to I think!
The hospital is good. It takes me around 30 mins to get there by train, then I walk through king's cross-interesting! for about 10 mins to the hospital. The team i'm with in cardiology are all lovely, especially the junior doctor i'm with who i'm getting on well with and basically shadowing her and helping with her jobs. I'm mainly been on ward rounds and in A&E and then to grand rounds and teaching sessions with the aus students which has been good. Next week i'll probably go to clinics and maybe theatre one day. Its really good as theres not many students around and hardly any elective students so theres a lot available to me.
I went out for food with sam on weds as he's left for the east coast now, and then went for indian last night with the family and friends as it was someones birthday. It was really nice as all the resterants around here are lovely. Bit of drama though,we were just about to eat and were in one of those private rooms where you take your shoes off and sit around a table on a setee type thing, when one of the ladies toppled back and cut her head on the door frame! they all looked to me and used the Dr Harrison line! So i looked at the wound, did my assessment ;) and said she should probably get it looked at as may need a stitch or glue, but it stopped bleeding and she didn't want to go so she just carried on sipping her wine!
I haven't really done much exploring yet as have been settling in, but am planning to do blue mtns, bridge climb, bondi beach, opera house, aquarium, wildlife park etc all in the next few weeks. I'm desperate to go shopping! Kirsty, my 3rd cousin said she'd love to take me out to manly and to the north beaches and quaint shops around that area, can't wait.
I leave for melbourne later today where i'm staying with a friend Kate and her boyfriend in the centre of the city. We're doing the "neighbours" tour tomorrow morn, can't wait! hahahhahahaha! and touristy things and shopping for the rest of the weekend. It's a good weekend for me to go as its the AFL-aussie rules- grand final on sat afternoon so there should be a good buzz to the city as its huge there! I fly back sunday eve which is annoying as i've found out monday is BH so I could of had an extra day there,oh well.
I'll probably write again after hopefully meeting toadie or carl or susan or someone on my tour! : ) Al, i'll get you some neighbours merchandise don't worry!
Oh yeah, saw my 1st possum the other day, which was cool, looked like a huge rat! They laughed at me for making a fuss, but we don't get them at home do we! Haven't seen any nasties like spiders yet which is great!
Hope everyone at home is well,
Love Lor xx
