Lorraine and Jay on The Big Trip
We arrived here in Boipeba yesterday evening.... after the biggest journey we´ve done so far! This is how it went - six hour overnight bus from Lencois to Salvador, city bus across Salvador, one hour ferry to Itaparica, two hour bus to Valenca, ferry had broken down, so another 1.5hr bus journey to another town and then finally a one hour ferry journey to Boipeba - so around 18 hours in total!
Great thing is, it was SO worth it! The island is in the middle of nowhere, and if the pace was any slower, it would be in reverse. We´re staying in Pousada Santa Clara, a tip of Debbie´s (ta!), owned by two brothers from New York, who are just beyond chilled. We have our own mini house, which feels like the Ritz after a couple of the hostels - fluffy towels, soap, our own verada with sea view - wow!!! We went straight to the beach when we got here to cool down (prob the mankiest we´ve felt so far!) and watched the sunset sitting in the sea. No camera with us, but we´ll defo be catching it tonight...
We had a pizza dinner and then a v v early night, feel amazing today after it. Bellies are nearly better, woo hoo! Breakfast was fab today - fresh orange and acerola juice (no idea what the fruit looks like, but juice is lovely), chocolate and hazelnut scones, tapioca and pancakes made of tapioca. Hungry again thinking about it now....
Plan for today is to explore the beaches, you can walk around the island in a few hours, so we´re going to have a mini hike tomorrow. There´s lots of snorkelling, diving etc, so will try some of that, and there´s a masseuse in the pousada too... hmm..
Jay´s been battling with the computer next to me for the last two hours trying to get our pics up... so some more of Rio up now, and if he can face more, some of Lencois...
