(Susi) As Lori has already mentioned we had a more restful day yesterday. This was because we got chauffeured in comfort to our destinations on very comfy buses with AC, (instead of hoofing around on our own steam and running up and down to the Tube), and they even prepared us a nice sack lunch.
Some highlights of Bath for me: Etymology of certain phrases - We saw small tin sheets, about 1/4 the size of a postcard, upon which people had inscribed some type of vindictive sentiment or curse against someone that had harmed them, usually in some ridiculously petty way. "May the man who stole my gloves be overcome with leprosy and wander homeless the rest of his life..." This was then thrown in a creek that led to the temple, and is the origin of the phrase "to Throw a Curse."
Watching a video dramatization of how they painstakingly made the "bricks" (more like clay concrete blocks) by hand, out of clay.
Seeing and walking amidst ancient structures the Romans had built almost 2000 years ago. Seing an actual tombstones carved 1,900 years ago! (the picture for this blog)
Walking along the lovely narrow streets of Bath, and finishing by treating ourselves to a proper High Tea in the historical Pump Room Restaurant, which may have served tea to Jane Austen and her contemporaries. How elegant!
And Stonehenge was awesome too. I got some great shots, and enjoyed this once in a lifetime opportunity to actually walk in the middle of something so ancient.
