Living the life
Living the life in Sydney, well i suppose my time spent here is giving me a real feel of what life would be like living in Sydney but without an eight hour working day to squeeze in on a daily bases. All the good news i told you about has all changed apart from Lorna still being here, she has got stuck into doing some agency work to top up the bank balance,i wish i could do the same.
I had to stop volunteering and pay a little visit to immigration to enquire if it was acceptable to volunteer as i'd heard it might not be alright with them. The outcome was all voluntary is deemed work and unfortunately i am not able to do so with my tourist visa,so that put an end to that. Also the prospect of being offered work for a few months has now changed.Sacred heart are unable to offer me sponsorship because i can not offer more time.So i'm hoping the agency may come up with something but it might be slim.Otherwise there is always New Zealand to consider, that'll be my next little research project. However i'm helping out at my hostel,Sydney star,to help pay the rent.I see myself in the role of a part-time Mrs.Doyle.
While i take on the role of Mrs.Doyle in the mornings in between a leisurely breakfast i get to have my afternoons free to explore Sydney,so it's still a good life.Maybe i wasn't meet to volunteer my time but the little shot i had at it i enjoyed. It made me miss work (only a little).
The city of Sydney so far has been great.I've been out to Watson's bay to get one of the best views in town.Last Sunday we walked from the frantic throngs of folk on Bondi beach all along the cliffs out to Watson's bay which is a bit of a well kept secret. It was a gorgous day, weather has been great a little chilly at times but it is just coming into Summer here.Of course i've been to see the Opera house and harbour bridge that you can get glimpses of at varies different points in the city.Near where i am staying is a little quite bay called Rushcutter's bay home to a small marina and a little fleet of yachts moored.Lovely any time of day.Everyone here is into making the most of the outdoors so any public place has it's fair share of dog walker's,keep-fit fanatics and those who just want to be outdoors. This evening at dusk i was down at an outdoor swimming pool (Andrew Boy Charlton pool) by Mrs.Macquaries chair, which is a beautiful point that overlooks the harbour.I managed a few lenghts and in between took in the view.Earlier in the day i had strolled through the Botanic gardens dodging the flying bats and their stinky poo but took in the blossoms of all the wonderful flowers the big old sprawling trees and it's open space. The gardens sweep round by Mrs.Macquaries chair, which i have to say is massive that only leads me to believe that Mrs.Macquarie spent a lot of time on her chair and her arse. From here you get to see the view that is Sydney, the Opera house rising as the harbour bridge stretches away from it.Beautiful, today i saw it in the afternoon light and later by the dark skyline of Sydney with the bridge light up.The city itself is a bit of old stuff with more new stuff thrown in,from every old building it is almost always possible to see a tall skyscraper stretching up behind it.You have St.Mary's catherdal overlooking Hyde park that brings you into town and a great place to have lunch with all the office workers during the day.Hyde park has an Anzac memorial statue that brings me back to my days in Gallippoli, Turkey where we celebrated Anzac day. Also here you have the Archibald fountain the other end and in between is lots of little gardens,at the moment part of the park is exhibiting an outdoor art show. You have the Queen Victoria buildings which is one of my favourite buildings both inside and out.I like it more inside because of all the lovely shops. The little bit of Sydney i'm in is called Darlinghurst,i'm near to King's cross which is a little unsavoury at night,it's the other end of the street crossing over William street and by the big Coca cola sign,a little further down you've got Potts point which is lovely and leads you down to Elizabeth bay. While to the other side is the area of Paddington which is lovely any time of day,it's got some great cafes that serve good coffee, there is no such thing as a bad cup of coffee here in Sydney. The main bit of Paddington is Oxford street which at one end leads you into town and the other takes you up by Centinnal park (another great open space) and out to Bondi junction and of course the beach.I've got plenty to do here which is great because i've had word trip has been delayed leaving Darwin. So instead of leaving Darwin on the 14th we now leave on the 19th.
Love to all,still can't believe i've come this far Ave x x x x
