Good Evening from Sydney ladies and gentlemen
It feels a little while since i've been here to update you guys,i know i'm on holiday but it's been all go and i've found myself in Sydney.
Some notes from Ko Samui first. On our second day on the island our accomadation got up-graded from basic to lovely standard.Due to the heat as a group we decided we needed a little air-con in our rooms as we were about to look for alternative accomadation when the manager said please don't leave how about i up-grade you guys,so we said let's have a look at what you got mister. He showed us some lovely wooden lodges that were more than perfect,we got lucky with facilities of big comfy beds, laundry, fresh towels daily,t.v,fridge and we got our lodges cleaned daily. The beach and big blue wet thing was only over the road with town a five minute walk away.So i was gutted to have to leave.Days were spent with morning jog on the beach and then it was yoga/pilates class followed by a leisurely breakfast that pretty much filled my morning. On the way home from town a dip in the sea then home for freshen up before grabbing my towel and book of the week and finding a place on the beach to soak up the sun and get rid of the farmer's tan i'd managed to acquire.Sun was very hot so it was often later in the afternoon until sunset that i whiled away time on the beach. All the time i was on Ko Samui i ate locally each evening at a local lady's kitchen that was much cheaper than the tourist prices in the restuarants and meant we got to mix with the locals a bit more, which for me is what it's all about. So i was sad to leave the island but it was time to move on.I could of easily spent another week there.During the week i was there i got to experience a Black moon party (no moon) on the next island north Ko Phangon a short ferry ride away.It was an all night affair but i may not get the chance again,it was one long party on the beach from dusk till dawn, good fun though.I did find Ko Samui a little expensive, things like taxi rides and food were a bit more expensive than what we were used to paying on the mainland. We did however rent a jeep for a day and drove round the island checked out some waterfalls before calling to tesco's on the way home.Again the place is over run with motorbikes,no one wears helmets here and it has the highest number of traffic accidents and fatalities in Thailand!! I didn't get as far north to the island of Ko Tao,it's meant to be a great place to go diving, which a few from the truck did end up doing.
Next stop was Malaysia, over the border and to the west of the pennisular to take a ferry to the island of Langkawi. We had been on the road for quite awhile and when we reached the ferry terminal little me was starving along with thirty other hungry mouths so we hit the local food market.I somehow in my hunger found room to devour fourteen springrolls and a bowl of rice so it came as no surprise on the rough sea that i saw at least six of my springrolls again that i left on the ferry in a plastic bag and i was a lovely pale shade of white,i'd lost my rouge and my appetite for the rest of the evening.I went to bed for the rest of the evening.
The following day we again got accomadation at a better location, right on the beach! No one could find fault with our rooms, spent here until the 20th.Again a chance to enjoy that real holiday feel.Morning jogs, dips in the sea the swimming and confidence coming along.Evenings spent in the sea watching the sun go down it was truly wonderful. If you want a relaxing holiday and want to enjoy the sun,sea and beach this is another great place to come.Would have loved to have gone to the next island Penang but didn't get the chance.Langkawi is considered predominately a muslim area but also other religions live side by side.Malaysia all in all comes over as a laid back culture and does not like to cause conflict,it's people like to live in respect of one anothers cultural diversities.A lesson the rest of the world could learn from.
Myself and Lorna left the island on the 20th got flights to Kula Lumpa where we flew onto Sydney.Lorna had a wedding to go to while i decided to organise sponsorship if i intend to stay on here after i've finished my travels.I'm due back in Darwin on October 12th,so until then i'm stuck in Sydney.
The good news is Lorna arrived back in town yesterday and has decided to stay here too until we are due back in Darwin for the last leg of the trip. The other good news is i've secured voluntary work for the next two weeks at a local hospice,i started today, just helped out at lunchtime.I'm going to help out on the wards for now, will try and be available for when i'm most needed, that seems to be breakfast until lunchtime. An early start tomorrow. The other good news is i got asked to leave my CV in with one of the nurse unit managers who is going to enquire if it will be possible to get sponsorship for me to work from December to March,so it's watch this space.
It all sounds promising,i've even been to see the opera house......
